"...but they just fall out of the sky" Why did he decide to write an album strictly in the studio? π€π§

"...but they just fall out of the sky" Why did he decide to write an album strictly in the studio? π€π§ Because what was falling out the sky was bird shit in the form of Girl With X Ray Eyes, Dream On, Simple Game Of Genius, etc.

It even has a somewhat catchy chorus (Perhaps for the wrong reasons). But for some reason, I loath it. It's so damn irritating. I don't even know why. I just want to vomit when it comes on most of the time. I literally feel a welling of illness in my gut.

Imagine if Sardy had produced X Ray Eyes. What a shit show it might have been. I think it gets a couple points extra because Noel handled it. It's a little more stripped back, but still has a lot of the same elements, just more in the background, which suits the style. Doesn't save it of course.

I don't think Dream On deserves to be lumped with shite like X-Ray Eyes. I like the melody and lyrics in Dream On, and the arrangement is pretty fun too. Like a good chunk of NGHFB, there's a belter in there dying for better production.

Girl with X-Ray Eyes is a great song, definitely in my NGHFB Top 10. Dream On is a pleasant album track, as long as you press skip one minute before the end of the song

I've forgiven WBTM. Everything before and after(except evil flower) is good.

I don't see any contradiction between that quote and writing in the studio. You write in the studio to expand the tools you have to catch those songs out of the sky. What are albums like Spirit of Eden and Tago Mago if they aren't a bunch of ideas that fell out of the sky in the studio? When Noel says that he's "learnt to not go looking for tunes" he means it's not good to force yourself to write when you're not feeling inspired, not that he can't write in a controlled setting that makes it easier to record and use ideas.

I used to dislike Dream On but it's a good one. X-Ray eyes I can take or leave and Simple Game of Genius should've been the HFB album closer.

Dream On is an enjoyable throwaway track... but X-Ray Eyes is pure dross in my opinion.
And about ASGOG... I like a lot of things about it but its potential was not fulfilled.

Dream On is a surprisingly decent crowd pleaser, I'm not much of a fan of it on record though. X-ray Eyes is good enough album filler imo. I reckon Simple Game Of Genius could have been a number 1 with Liam singing on it. Holy Mountain and Love Is The Law are probably the lowest period of songwriting in Noel's career for me (I'm not sure whether I should count the EPs in that, I see them as Noel having a clear out before beginning a new chapter) but I accept it takes all sorts.
