Once is a monotonous power ballad that tries to be meaningful. It's simplicity simply doesn't allow for this. In other words, the lyrics are shit. How is it monotonous...? I don't know, maybe shouting "ONCE" 30 times at the end is a little monotonous. Very boring song.

That's a valid opinion but you can't argue it didn't "work" for Liam, it's a huge hit for him. Where as Kill For A Dream didn't work at all for Beady Eye. Hence this thread. It was one of those massive hits that didn't break the top 40 in any major country.

I take that line to be deeper than it lets on. Like "I'm just as humdrum as most" but that's just me. Fair point. However. It is a bit rich (literally!) coming from a man who still tries to espouse his working class ethos. How many council estates do you know have swimming pools? The reference to swimming pools alone screams inauthentic. Sometimes people need to actually listen or read the lyrics...the line before gives you the context ..."Sometimes the freedom we wanted feels so uncool, Just clean the pool, And send the kids to school" So basically he wanted freedom (financial) but then as a working class man who had dreams that can seem a little dull and was it all worth it as the mundane isn't the dream (which makes it quite a bit deeper and authentic)

It sounds like you're describing For What It's Worth. For What It's Worth was a bigger chart hit though And the only song on AYW I totally despise. Always liked KFAD live though..back in the early gigs.

Would like to see an edit of KFAD that brings it down to 3:00 minutes.

Would like to see an edit of KFAD that brings it down to 3:00 minutes. I think a fair few of the DGSS could be reworked and made into better songs. At the time I loved the album. On subsequent years later it's not bad if a tad too sixties vibe for me.

I don't know, maybe shouting "ONCE" 30 times at the end is a little monotonous. Very boring song. Well that's the bridge. What about the rest of the song? The verses and the choruses?

It's a very lazy bridge, just shouting the title over and over. The lyrics aren't very good. It's not that bad, I'm not saying that. I'm just saying it's very mediocre. Maybe you're looking for something different in music than I am. Maybe what I perceive as dumb you perceive as meaningful or beautiful. I don't know, argument over.

Once could have been written by Noel in the 90s. There's no real better compliment than that. Liam's delivery is in another league as well, it's genuinely one of my favourite things Liam has sung.

Kill for a Dream would work so much better as a Ride b-side. Nobody cares about cheesy lyrics when they're hidden behind a wall of shoegaze guitars, and the vocal melody little more than a wisp in the mix. Plus turning down the parody-levels of 60s production (including removing the cringe nanas) would already make it that much more listenable.

Not a huge fan of DGSS, and I think KFAD is a perfect example of why. I played it to re-acquaint myself with it, was feeling like it was a bit of an ordeal to get through, looked at the player and it was only 2 minutes through! There's a few good tunes on the album, the singles are generally very good (apart from Millionaire), but a lot of it, like this one, just feels dull and endless!
Once is brilliant, so I guess that's the difference.

Once is a decent song that’s why. Kill For A Dream is just embarrassing.

KFAD is one of my favourite BE songs. The German Promo CD-R version has better sound quality and is a lot more enjoyable. Seems most people here just shit on everything. It's not a bad song at all. I love KFAD also, and you're very right about the promo version. Unfortunately, many probably haven't had a chance to hear it.

Sometimes I wonder if I like KFAD more than literally anyone else in the Oasis fan universe. If I’m being honest, I actually...kind of...sorta...love it. I’m going into hiding now.
