Once is perfectly crafted (except for that cringe ONCE bit Liam insists on shouting when done live).
KFAD is a perfect 3 minute pop song. Bad part is it goes on for close to 5 mins which saps life out of it IMO.

Once is pretty mediocre honestly.
"Just clean the pool and send the kids to school"
Sounds like 3rd grade poetry to me.

Same song. *Kill for a Dream (Beady Eye, lest we forget). Because the vocal melody and chord progression isn't as strong and emotionally poignant.

Like "I'm just as humdrum as most" but that's just me. Fair point. However. It is a bit rich (literally!) coming from a man who still tries to espouse his working class ethos. How many council estates do you know have swimming pools? The reference to swimming pools alone screams inauthentic.

A man who's life was going down hill singing about how he would kill for a dream is just a little more authentic than a multi millionaire singing about how miserable it is to have a giant pool and be wealthy.

It would be inauthentic if he pretended he still lived on the estate.

Because Kill For A Dream is a bad song and Once is a good song.

I do and always will love the song. But I will rarely ever listen to it. Because as stxparkamonkey mentioned, it goes on and on and on and on. Which turns what I consider to be a beautiful song into a boring one, as it's quite simple and doesn't justify its own length. It has good vocals, really heartfelt from Liam and decent lyrics. It's just far too long, a trend for the album as a whole. They never knew when to end the songs.
Plus, as I think Lennon pointed out to me a few years ago, it's basically a lift of Rockstar by Nickelback.
If Once was made into a 5 minute song, we'd probably pan it too.

Once has a massive chorus, which KFAD lacks.

Kill For A Dream is a drawn out plodding mess. Once keeps it short and simple with a massive chorus that has stayed reverberating throughout my conscious since I first heard it. Chris's mundane snare is nightmare fuel.

Once is a monotonous power ballad that tries to be meaningful. It's simplicity simply doesn't allow for this. In other words, the lyrics are shit.

KFAD is one of my favourite BE songs. The German Promo CD-R version has better sound quality and is a lot more enjoyable. Seems most people here just shit on everything. It's not a bad song at all.

Keep the Dream alive is about keeping dreams alive, which is pretty cheesy. Once is just a far better song.

Always loved KFAD. Really great tune. The version I saw at the Albert hall was top.

KFAD is basically Little James.
That being said, KFAD is clunky and the four bars of strumming A between every section is just so fucking insanely lazy they deserved to be tied up and bombarded with rotten tomatoes.
Also, the lyrics in Once are more specific, personal and coherent where KFDA is generic when best and gibberish nonsense when worst.
Oh well 😎

Once is a monotonous power ballad that tries to be meaningful. It's simplicity simply doesn't allow for this. In other words, the lyrics are shit. That's a valid opinion but you can't argue it didn't "work" for Liam, it's a huge hit for him. Where as Kill For A Dream didn't work at all for Beady Eye. Hence this thread.
