The track list for the new versions of the red and blue albums has leaked with Now and Then at the end of the blue. No FAAB and Real Love though which is a shame and an odd choice. I'm excited to hear the AI remixes of their early 2 track material.

I really agree with all of the additional tracks, all except I Me Mine which seems pretty odd, if they wanted another George track For You Blue would have been a better choice from Let It Be. It'll be interesting to see how the early stuff sounds in remixed form, those 2009 CDs are shocking for the early stuff, I always go back to the 1987 CDs for anything pre Revolver now.

This artwork is so lame I often think people can be a bit sniffy about artwork but that is truly horrendous. For some reason they're pushing that ugly image ahead of the back of the sleeve, which in contrast is rather nice clock image. I've grabbed the 4CD set from the Beatles store and the cassette of Now & Then. Shame they haven't issued a CD single, but I guess that would have stopped loads of people forking out for the Blue album.

So what's actually happening? They're releasing the red/blue album again with different tracks?

The new “bonus” tracks are truly baffling. I’d never have put Roll Over Beethoven, You Really Got A Hold On Me, This Boy, I’m Only Sleeping, Within You Without You, I Want You. Don’t get my wrong. I like some of these songs a lot. But I’d much rather have And Your Bird Can Sing or Doctor Robert or She Said She Said on this comp over Sleeping. Likewise there are better George songs to select over Within You. I’d imagine a lot of politics going on behind the scenes.

It’s so weird to toss “Now and Then” to end the Blue album. Doesn’t fit at all. I get why they did it. To push vinyl for an album we all own. I’d have liked to have seen Free As A Bird, Real Love, Now and Then all packed together on a 12”.

Interesting. The “real” Now and Then artwork is on the backside of the image we all have been seeing. You see it flip on their official site.

A great write up on 'Now and Then' from Rob Sheffield in Rolling Stone:
And this is exciting, about how the early two-track recordings are sounding now, thanks to the machine-learning "de-mixing" technology:
Bit concerned by talk of 'I Am the Walrus' losing some of its sampled King Lear dialogue at the end, though. I love all that! It's such a weirdly perfect way to end that song.
It's wonderful when these remixes reveal aspects to the recordings that we had not been aware of before, but it's crushing when other things which had been apparent in the original mixes become harder to make out, sometimes to the point of erasion (e.g. Paul's off-mic goofing around on 'Savoy Truffle', some of the studio chatter at the end of 'Helter Skelter', and what sounds like a baby cooing at the very last second of 'I'm so tired').

A Peter Jackson-directed music video too! What a wonderful surprise. It sounds like he's gone all in on it as well. That doesn't surprise me at all. He doesn't do anything by half measures. Can't wait to see what the beautiful hairy bastard's got for us this time! matt

Where is the talk of King Lear dialogue being edited or removed from? That sucks if true.

Where is the talk of King Lear dialogue being edited or removed from? That sucks if true. This new interview with Giles makes me think Walrus ending is now saved. www.grammy.com/news/the-beatles-last-song-now-and-then-giles-martin-interviewYour first Beatles remix project, for Sgt. Pepper's, came out five years ago. On the other side of the coin, The Blue Album features songs from that dense, psychedelic era, like "I Am the Walrus," which is such a beast. That must have been a different kind of fun. Yeah, well, "Walrus" is a beast. I've actually gone back and re-changed the stereo [mix] recently, because I got asked questions like, "Why did I change the end section so it didn't sound like the original?" I was thinking, Did I? I didn't do it deliberately. It's just the balance of speech versus vocals and stuff like that. I was very lucky, because "Walrus" was on the Love album and show. I tackled a version of that before, and know how tricky it is. Because by its nature, "Walrus" sounds technically bad, but it's beautiful. It's beautifully ugly as a record, and they're the hardest ones, because you don't want to take away the character. You don't want to remove the grime, because the grime is the record. I spent a lot of time looking at this and doing this — hopefully, we're in a good place with "Walrus." You know, music's about, How does this make you feel? You don't want to feel secure around "Walrus" at any stage; you want to be unnerved by it. People sort of ask about plugins and technology, and it's like, it's not about that — something you can get on a shelf. How it makes you feel is the most important thing.

Reading this is gold dust! Getting ever closer to hearing every Beatles recording in pure clarity. I can't believe that the stereo mixes (even the pointless 2009 remasters) is still the dominant audio to listen to the greatest musical act ever. The mono boxset is great but limited (and isn't on streaming), so it's somewhat shocking to think that these songs were left in a poor stereo quality until 2017 with the Sgt Pepper remix in 2017. And who'd have ever thought Peter Jackson would become part of Beatles legend. Along with Giles Martin, nobody in the 21st century has had a bigger influence in protecting and enhancing their legacy.
