I remember thinking at one point that I would have to feel 'ashamed' to be an oasis fan as they'd be looked at negatively in the US and a 'joke' has been band. Bands that have that feeling here are bands like Smashmouth and Nickelback. However, while some people here in the US will reference their attitudes, they seem to actually genuinely respect the music.
I actually feel that oasis is a band that gets a lot of respect for what they were and aren't looked at as a joke at all. Do you agree, or do you feel you have to 'defend yourself' for being an oasis fan.

I still hear the jokes about brothers fighting and fucking things up on MTV multiple times. Anyone under 30 probably knows their big songs from Spotify playlists.

What an odd thread. Kind of pointless.

What an odd thread. Kind of pointless. You are right. Even though at the time I was interested in the opinions if oasis were considered a joke, the thread was pretty pointless. In fact, I can only think of three things in the world more pointless than my post. 1. Responding to posts saying they are pointless 2. Responding to a post that is saying your own post is pointless 3. Defending calling a post pointless. If it's ok with you, I'm going to go create a thread now about who has a cooler middle name, Liam or Noel?

No need to get so defensive, just saying. I don't know their middle names, so you go for it.

I don't really think its a pointless thread. Oasis were really important to the world by the time they appeared. In that time, the grunge genre was all over the place. A genre that spoke about anger and how the young people felt lost and misunderstood. Then 5 lads from the working class popped up saying that life is good, that young people should not see the world as such a twisted place. Come on, they had a song called Life In Vain in the early days. I know that every single member knows this back story but we have to aknowledge what they meant to fall in love with the musical project that Oasis was.

I think it depends where you live. I'm from north-west England, and Oasis never went out of fashion here. Go to any house party and you can bet safe money on an Oasis tune being played. Walk around a college and you'll see a good amount of their t-shirts being worn. You'd probably have more pressure to defend yourself if you weren't an Oasis fan than if you were. I imagine the situation is very different in America.

Oasis were never considered lame, they were simply swiftly forgotten about in the US.

Oasis were never considered lame, they were simply swiftly forgotten about in the US. No, Oasis were uncool from 1999 to 2005 in the US. Or maybe it were me who was uncool.

I say this with the utmost respect but what is it with the stupid threads lately? And it’s not even because of me....!
