MY REVIEWOh Sweet Children - If Macca circa Venus and Mars and Sheryl Crow had a baby, this song would be it. The T-rex reference too. Well, i like it. Because i like early sheryl crow records (the second one is a beast). Classic song, not too many risks taken here, but it's a good closer i think. Liam delivers another raw and sweet vocals, not shouting like he used to on some previous ballads. another fade out though. Meh. 8/10. Funny thing you'd mention Sheryl Crow, I thought the same thing but thought I was "imagining" things. It might be because of the line "oh sweet marie" in Shery Crow's song. But "Wave" also has a bit a of a Sheryl Crow vibe, specially the backing vocals I think. Weird reference to appear in a LG record, though. Yes i know, weird right. You're probably right about the line, it's a distant cousin. The whole melody as well, sounds like a Sheryl Crow song. |

The album is definitely a grower  Production wise it reminds me to BE era, which is good because I love that collection of songs (specially the b-sides). I don't know if someone has mentioned it, but Don't Go Halfway sounds like Super Furry Animals and it could fit on Radiator album. A lot of more "obvious" references in the album: Stones on More Power, Arctic Monkeys + Ian Brown on Diamond In the Dark, U2 on World's In Need, Chemical Brothers on Better Days or Lennon + Bolan on Oh Sweet Children (I can't help but singing Mind Games during the chorus). It's a pity that More Power and Oh Sweet Children don't have longer epic ends. Ah! And I absolutely love The Joker. It's not a Gallagher album if there's no great songs left off the standard tracklist. |

Speaking of odd references to songs, I have this one. It's not so much musically, mostly the line "the empty seats across the table" that makes the reference for me, but maybe also the theatricality and melancholy of both songs. Anyway, ever since I fell in love with "Moscow rules" I keep also having this song from Les Miserables in my head. Thankfully I was utterly besotted with it when I was younger and still can sing most of it by heart, so for me that's very much not a bad thing, but of course just me and a coincidence.

What is this forum's obsession with teenaged sweat? As if Liam isn't sweating all the way through his parka coat in that photo. We're all here for a middle-aged man who's declared he'd be sweating buckets on stage even if he was in a bikini (actual quote). Is middle-aged sweat really so much more attractive?
Sorry to jump on you, but this rant has been building for a while, haha. Aside from everything else, I would bet most or all of the fans in that photo are in their 20s.
