Quite interesting and explains it pretty well, I've always understood the side by side comparisons, but as a whole I can't see major similarities in the overall sounds of the bands. Probably as a result of my limited Beatles listening in comparison to Oasis.

I've had this debate countless times. It genuinely just stems from the media being somewhat obsessed with needing to let everyone know Oasis' place in the musical landscape. Around 95 people were saying Oasis were bigger and better. They hated that. Sometimes even trying to claim Oasis were trying to say the same.
When you actually ask anyone what songs sound the same, you get the usual oh imagine intro on DLBIA. (Imagine isnt even a beatles song and its an obvious reference rather than rip) and then you starr getting into silly little bits of Shes Electric at the end and the guitar solo on certain songs. In general its just looking for something that isnt there. I think Noel ripped off a wide variety of songs, but nothing obvious from the Beatles.

The mellotron bit is also in Cigarettes in Hell.

The use of piano and mellotron on certain songs (I'm not talking about DLBIA), the way Liam sings etc. Though it was only later that they actually started embracing the Beatle-esque sound, especially with Liam wanting stuff to sound like Lennon and Harrison. The Girl In The Dirty Shirt (underrated song) was the first time I remember them really aping them...

Decent vid - although the strings from ‘The Masterplan’ are actually from Whatever

They don't sound like The Beatles. Certain songs have Beatles influences, but the two bands have very distinct sounds. No-one has ever listened to Some Might Say and gone "Hold on, was that on Abbey Road?".

In a way there's nothing you can do about it really, for every song there will be someone claiming similarities. Like at this exact moment there will probably be some wanker somewhere spending two hours writing an essay on how Headshrinker is a direct rip off of Helter Skelter.

The thing is, the U.K’s only had a few worldwide hit bands; and Oasis is the last besides Coldplay, and that’s sad; so Oasis is compared to The Beatles. God bless.

He should do one looking at the references to Noel in Liam’s post-Oasis songs.
Enough material there for a box set.

I was expecting an analysis about melodic contours, etc.

They don't sound like The Beatles. Certain songs have Beatles influences, no doubt, but on the whole the two bands have very distinct sounds. No-one has ever listened to Some Might Say and gone "Hold on, is that The Beatles?". Exactly, especially Definetely Maybe. There's nothing on there that anyone would say hang on thats the Beatles. But combine their idolising of them, with a couple of small references on Morning Glory and the media seemed obsessed with that label. What i dont like is how they, especially Liam but Noel too, just kept falling more into the references and influence and DOYS/Beady Eye/Liam just went more and more with it instead of actively trying to have a new direction.

Mind numbingly false statement I forgot to reply to your post, sorry. I was exaggerating, but it says something about the U.K. how a band that hasn't existed for over 10 years, and hasn't been relevant for 20 years, is the most popular band....that's what's said around here, anyway, are Oasís the most popular U.K. band? If so, that's sad.... Thanks.

Not many, and the ones that you could say have been the biggest are mostly from the UK - Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian and (even though I am not particularly a fan) Coldplay. US bands like The Strokes and The Killers would be in this category as well but none come close to the popularity and fame of Oasis IMO (maybe Coldplay but they are a completely different genre). I'm not even English but to say that the UK hasn't produced many top bands is nuts considering they have produced almost all of the greatest bands of all time - The Beatles, Rollling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Who, Black Sabbath, Queen, The Kinks, The Clash, Radiohead, Oasis, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Blur - not many of the greatest bands of all time have come from anywhere besides the UK, if anything I would say that it is the country best known for its music.

Arcade 🔥 and Tame Impala are the best bands in the last 10 to 15 years....neither British or American. As I said. I was exaggerating about U.K. bands, The Rolling Stones are my second favorite band ever.... Thanks.

Nothing really. Oasis never had that 60s retro sound. The closest are probably the strings on Whatever and even that... Other bands contemporary to Oasis sounded way closer to the Beatles than Oasis ever did.
Plus the piano intro from DLBIA is from Imagine, not the Beatles. Lazy people think Oasis sound like the Beatles.
But the biggest Oasis sounded like the Beatles is... Noel on The Death Of You and Me and the bits stolen from The Benefit of Mr Kite.
