love it but never played/recorded perfectly live best beat/groove: any version with McCarroll on drums best bass: Andy 2001 best backing vocals: Noel 2001 (Barrowlands man, YEA YEA YEAAAA!!!) best lead vocals: any fucking version, easy song to sing for liam. Its a shame we couldnt get a mixture of those elements, no oasis song has ever met its full potential live for me, early on they were the best rehearsed but noel was so unrefined, not a problem on a lot of songs but he plays solos and bits much better later on. Cast no shadow 95-6 is probably the only flawless performance for me (the best of every musician).

Very good. Has there ever been any explanation or acknowledgement of Columbia and Be Here Now sharing the same 'come on's and 'yeah yeah yeah's ?

I dont think the last two poster's understood what I was saying. English isn't my first language so perhaps its my fault.
I'm not saying Barrowlands isn't top-notch, I'm saying it has the best backing vocals and bass ever performed for the song, but the groove and pace were better when Tony was around. I'm saying its a shame we never got the two together.

Hats off to Matt Whitecross for using this song as the opening tune of Supersonic doc. He knew what he was making.
I've watched Supersonic in a cinema twice and bought DVD's later, but both experiences were apple and orange. Seriously the cinema floor was bouncing when the intro hits.

I understand what you're saying, Oasis 1994-1998 had a great sound, but most of the guitar parts were played much better between 2000-2009. Like Noel said: they never did Slide Away or Some Might Say justice live. The thing I like about Familiar to Millions is that is has the best of both, the arrangements were great (Cigs & Alcohol intro & outro + Noel's backing vocals) and Liam is on fire.

Supersonic on the other hand he fucking ruined.

Performed the way they did it in the big gigs '96 (Knebworth etc.. ) I absolutely love.
Every other time I think it's terrible, my opinion of course

Epic tune. One of the best ever in all aspects.
It's biblical, menacing, it rubs its huge balls round your face and pisses all up and down lightweights like This Is The Place, Shockwave and The River. Liam's third LP should be 11 versions of Columbia 🤘

It's in my top 5. Love everything about the song. Just shows you that music doesn't have to complex to be good.

Columbia is a song that goes somewhere.....it builds.
I remember not liking it when it first came out; then listening to it while on marijuana and playing Madden '92 for Sega Genesis, the best video game ever.....
The songs builds.........Yeah, Yeah, Yeah....
Great song.....
Thanks.

Axe Corner - Tortuga innit. Kinda lucky no royalties were due unless a secret payment was made, and also wasn't widely known before the internet - no music critic ever pointed it out in 1994 that I remember.
Also I don't see how it can be underrated when several million homes (and sadly now thrift stores and charity shops) have copies of this CD and its placed at a crucial, central point in the record.
As have previously been pointed out with that trance-like A-C-D chord progression the rhythm section provide a simple base which any aspiring musician could learn in 10 minutes for Noel's inventive creative riffing. He plays nothing to test even a novice but he has such an incredible mind for a nagging, memorable hooks both in vocals and instrumentation.
Listen to him cut loose on the outro here - he's got endless ideas even over the same pentatonic (I think?) chord sequence and he never stopped coming up with the goods when they added things to their live performances (the extended CS / All around the world, the re-tooled To Be Where There's Life). He's still got soloing prowess in the studio, its too bad he mostly abandoned this live, Gem is ok but I'd prefer to hear the solos by the man who invented them.
