This isn’t Noel v Liam, it’s purely song v song.
Probably the two most emotional songs since they were both solo, but which gets you right there the most?

Dead In The Water. Not even close. More raw, more sincere, less drippy and sentimental than Once - just overall more authentic. Classic Noel - it’s the one genuine ‘traditional’ classic of his from the last ten years when applying the old formula.
Not sure what the hysteria about Once is all about. Industry songwriters work for the more fun, more upbeat and rocky tunes which is ideal for Liam but when it comes to sincerity this is where the plastic veneer shines brightly. I think songs that have an openness to it like Bold work better when it’s coming purely from Liam. Once is as cliched as it gets.

Once is stuck in my head, it's catchy and sentimental without being Ashcroft- saccharine or overly too Lennon stanning. Dead in the Water is better but doesn't mean Once is bad. For What It's Worth fits your description.

Not a huge fan of both songs, but I prefer Dead in the Water. It's more raw, sincere and heart-wrenching.

I'm giving the edge to Once, but that may be recency bias. They are, however, the two post-Oasis tunes that have made me actually tear up. Whichever one I give #1 to, is only ahead by a nose.

Once is alot better.
Better chorus, better melody and Liam's voice is 100x that of a whaling Noel.

Once has the much better production though.. DITW is even a bonus throwaway track if you think about it. But I think If i had a Gun trumps them both

Dead In The Water for me, but i really hope someday Noel will record it in the studio. maybe as a bside to the last EP, that'd be cool.

DITW hits me right in the heart. Just like IIHAG and TDOTL. I’ll always be an Oasis girl to my core so these just trigger me 😂🙌🏻

Both beautiful songs I prefer once, the strings are simply awesome and Liam's voice is beautiful too

Even if lately I am not much into that type of power ballads, I do like 'Once' a lot: simple but beautiful and touching like Liam's best songs.
I voted DITW because for me is a top 5 NGHFB song, which would not sound out of place as a b-side in the 90s

Dead in the Water, for basically the reasons matt describes. It feels raw, unfiltered, emotional. To even think of it in terms of verses and choruses seems gauche because it's such a direct pouring of emotion. Once sounds almost cynical in comparison, what with it's by-the-numbers balladry and knowingly "anthemic" build-up.

Dead In The Water is far superior. Especially the middle 8 is haunting.

I like both songs. * Runs and hides. How dare you. Granted I do have small issues with both tunes. Don’t like the recording of DIW (deserves better) and not big on the whole cool, pool, school. Only weak spot for me. Only cheese ball moment on a beautiful track. Small gripe. And don’t @ me. Noel’s written some blunders as well, liar/fire, kids on crack, stash/cash.
