I feel that with Who Built the Moon and the latest EP that Noel is really on a purple patch of great songs.

He's still got it and I believe he still has a lot more to offer musically. The last few years have seen him progressed not only as a musician but also as an artist. He's getting more comfortable with what he's doing and he has a clear idea about what he wants.

I agree that the variety he has been introducing since WBTM raises interest a notch but, from a pure songwriting perspective, I think his output has been consistently high quality in all his solo career. Something made click again in his head around 2008. Before that, we spent the 2000s waiting 3 years to get an album with maybe 2 good songs and 2 decent ones from him.

Who Built the Moon is the best Gallagher record since 2001, Black Star Dancing is a mediocre EP. I don't know if I'd call it a purple patch overall, but his work with Holmes has shown that Noel can continue to have a compelling solo career with the right creative pushing.

I feel that with Who Built the Moon and the latest EP that Noel is really on a purple patch of great songs. The quality of the songs is high but the quantity of the songs worries me a bit. Who Built The Moon was basically an 8 track album. Had he put the BSD Ep tracks on the album it would've been as good as anything Oasis related since Be Here Now. P.S. "Some grumpy potatoes out there..."

I feel like the forum's reception to BSD is exactly why Noel has never released standalone EPs until now. It's obviously not meant to be album quality, otherwise the songs would be on an album, but it's criticized using the same standards.
Is Noel on a purple patch? Hard to say. WBTM was great, a little short on actual tracks. BSD is a throwaway EP with some nice songs but clearly not the ones Noel considers his best.

I feel that with Who Built the Moon and the latest EP that Noel is really on a purple patch of great songs. You steal my trolling style, and then you steal my thread content. Shameless Potato. I have written time and time again that Noel’s purple patch dates back to DBTT. But a strong argument can be made that he never lost his songwriting touch in the first place - once you see all the songs Noel wrote during SOTSOG and HC, it is quite clear he still was writing well but his lack on confidence at the time led to a selection issue where he put stuff like ICSAL on SOTSOG, whereas LAMB remains unreleased.

I hate the phrase purple patch.
Makes me imagine Noel having an accident after drinking too much ribena.

I really hope he records everything he's got before it's too late. Then we'll choose what to listen. Don't let songs unrecorded, It's a crime.

I hate the phrase purple patch. Makes me imagine Noel having an accident after drinking too much ribena. X Ribena is the shit. Tastes like childhood. Shame the US doesn’t have it - yet another black mark. In school when I was in the UK, during morning snack the teachers would water down the mug of Ribena (a fucking crime against humanity) so we would always look forward to the days with the darker jug of Ribena as it wouldn’t be as watered down and thus more flavorful. Good times.
