I have been doing some research to try to pinpoint the exact filming date of the US version of the Supersonic music video (if it looks familiar, parts of it were used in the Some Might Say video after Liam refused to film one for it). From what I have been able to piece together, it was filmed at the Cabazon Dinosaurs in Cabazon, CA (east of Los Angeles near Palm Springs). Based on Melissa Lim's account of the events around the disastrous Whiskey A Go Go gig, it was filmed after Noel left the tour. IMDB lists the release date of the video as November, 1994, and if correct means it was obviously filmed before then. Finally, the Whiskey A Go Go concert was on September 29. Lim claims that Noel ended up in SF 3 days later (so October 1st or so). Oasis had a recording session at The Congress House in Austin, TX on October 8th. A quick scan of the rest of the US tour shows that they were no where near Southern California for the rest of the tour (they were on the east coast for the second half of October before going to France in November). Therefore, my best guess is that it was recorded some time in early October between Noel's hiatus and the recording session. So, I am curious if anyone has any source information that helps corroborate this? Perhaps interviews around the time that allude to filming the video? I also believe it was the first video that Nick Egan directed for the band. Any leads would be greatly appreciated!

oasisunitedAccording to 'Getting High: The Adventures of Oasis' (p283-288) from the time Noel left the band in Los Angeles to his return to the band the night before the sessions in Austin, he was in SF with Melissa Lim and then Tim Abbot who subsequently took him on to Las Vegas without Noel seeing or even speaking to the band until 7th/8th October in Austin. That quote from the SF Chronicle article you linked suggests that the filming was done post-resumption of the reunion, so going on the gap between the two days in Austin and resuming the tour on 14th October at Uptown Bar, Minneapolis I think 9th to 13th October might be a good bet considering the remaining tour schedule was quite tightly packed and well away from California. I'll dig through my collection of Oasis related stuff later and see if anything more concrete turns up, but hope that helps for now!

It is also possible that Lim thinks the tour resumed as soon as Noel was retrieved (or the author filled that bit in). I thought that it might have been after the recording session in Austin, but I thought that seemed unlikely because of logistics. Vegas is about a 3 hour drive to where the video was filmed. Austin is over 1,000 miles from LA, though about a 3 hour flight. I suppose with the tour in shambles, they may have cycled back to Southern CA before resuming on the 14th in Minnesota as they were probably already in the hole money wise. I was hoping that there would be an interview floating around from when the rest of the tour resumed where it was mentioned. Thanks for your help! (If you are willing, I have a few more things that I am trying to track down for my timeline project -- if interested in helping, send me a message)

guigsysEstring I did some more digging on this and I am starting to think that the most likely date for the filming would have been on either September 27th or 28th. Oasis supposedly arrived in Los Angeles on the 27/28th, ahead of the Whiskey gig on the 29th after driving overnight from Sacramento to Los Angeles (about a 5-6 hour drive). We also know from Getting High that Epic Records threw a party for Oasis on the afternoon of the Whiskey Gig on the 29th. That, combined with the stories about taking crystal meth the night before and being up all night on the 28th into the 29th most likely eliminates the day of the gig as the recording date. One wrench in this new theory is a post card posted by Guigsy's sister Mary on Twitter recently. She wrote that Guigsy mentioned going to film the video for Supersonic. However, the post card is postmarked as being mailed on October 6 in Austin, TX, which as we know is where the band regrouped to record at The Congress House recording studio. The post card is of Alcatraz, which is in San Francisco, CA, so its possible that Guigsy filled out the card earlier (while in LA perhaps?) but didn't get around to mailing it until they got to Austin after Noel returned. I asked Mary about it and she said she would pull it out again, but I haven't heard back from her, so I am not keeping my fingers crossed about getting additional information off of the full view of the card. I am starting to believe that it is unlikely that they would have gone back to Los Angeles (or Cabazon, CA, which is where those giant dinosaurs in the video are) after Noel went from SF to Las Vegas only to rejoin the band in Texas. Too much back tracking, in my opinion. Anyway, we probably won't be able to pin this down without seeing something like the tour itinerary or a direct confirmation from one of the participants, unless we can find a contemporary interview/source that references it.

Correction: in the linked tweet, the post card of the Sex Pistols is the one that mentions recording the video (post mark date unknown), not the Alcatraz one postmarked on October 6th. However, that may in fact be a clue that it is from earlier in the tour than in October.

I found a listing for the promo video that shows the release date as November 15, 1994. I am not sure why it says "Version 3" (as opposed to version 2), but I think this helps pin down that the video would have been made back during the US tour, some time towards the end of September or early October after Noel returned, as he is in the video.

I recently interviewed the Director Nick Egan for the Oasis Podcast - he talked about it a lot on the episode but I’m not sure if he said specific date. I can message him to see if he remembers if you like?

If you don't mind reaching out to him to help confirm when it was recorded, that would be a huge help. He did imply that it was filmed after the Whiskey gig, which would probably mean that it was done some time in October after Noel returned, perhaps before they entered the studio in Texas.

I've always preferred the UK version of the video to the US one to be honest. But they're both good.
