BE needed another six months or so of work to be really good. There's great stuff on there (Flick, Second Bite, Soon Come Tomorrow, Just Saying) and the b-sides are shockingly good too.
But honestly the biggest missed opportunity was crafting actually great songs out of the album tracks that just didn't quite make it there. Soul Love, Start Anew, Ballroom Figured, Iz Rite...all of them have really decent moments but end up average.
There was no reason to rush the second album, especially since the songwriting on DGSS already drew deserved criticism. LAG just weren't good enough songwriters to bang out an album in less than two years. Even Noel takes much longer and he's certainly on a whole different level of writing skill.

Can't believe The Beat Goes On gets slagged off...….epic anthem. You're a liar if you haven't sung along to it.
Standing On The Edge of the Noise and Three Ring Circus are the worst ones on that record. Also Wind Up Dream.
Also people slating the vocals on BE, Liam is better on there than DGSS, for sure.

The BE album is not that bad. I still enjoy it from time to time. The treatment towards it and Chasing Yesterday these days is weird. These two records get trashed because of a couple bad apples yet have some expansive soundscapes on them. While The Song Remains the Same is still my favorite Noel solo tune, and Soul Love is a killer.

Agree with that, TBGO is a bit long in the end, cut short 1 mins and it's a pretty good sound, with good production. Also agree about the stinkers on DGSS and the vocals on BE. It's like Liam is singing right into our ears, love it.

Liams vocals on BE are probably the worst hes ever released on a record for the most part. Very thin, tired and generally not hitting notes very well. unconfident is what I would call it.
think it boils down to Liam trying to prove that he could still sing and therefore they left the vocal rather raw and exposed.....not good when he wasnt at his strongest.
as you were demonstrates his vocal ability in a much better fashion.
I remember him doing this acoustic show towards the end and it was just the worst, the power was completely gone from his voice and he looked fed up with the whole thing. Easy to see the band coming to a close at this point.

I guess people are just used to the BIG production that's mostly on his voice elsewhere. Btw that other Absolute Radio acoustic session they did for BE was brilliant compared with this!! His voice is totally screwed here...…..

I really enjoyed Liam's performance in this session. I remember watching it when it came out. I've always liked Start Anew even though it lacked a chorus.

I feel empathy for him here, clearly going through a very troubled time but still trying to keep the wheels turning as well as he can. I'll say it. This song is bang average, if not piss poor. I've never understood the hype. I agree, I really love stripped down musically simple ballads but the lyrics have to be deeper than this for that type of song. Songbird, for example, is perfection - musically basic but lyrically cute. I still think the pilot in my mind lyric is one of the best from Liam ever. For cliche lyrics such as those in Start Anew you need more going on musically. Another case of banging out the lyrics and that’ll do rather than readdressing them, making a few subtle tweaks and it could’ve turned a 3/10 into a 7 or 8.

I swear every single song that ever gets a thread starts with he OP saying how great it is, the next couple saying meh, then someone saying its the worst fucking thing ever. Then a mod saying they quite enjoy it and everyone should pipe the fuck down.
I love it.

Being a mod on here has nothing to do with the fact that I like the EP. I especially love The Reflex Revision. They're fantastic. Calm down man

As in i enjoy how people over react one way or another to a song. Which is hilarious given the subjective nature of music. Im sorry if my post came across as a dig. Wasnt intended that way.

Think Start Anew is a very good tune, liked it more when i saw it used in that program Elementary.
Theres some bad Beady eye songs but a fair few good ones. The bonus songs were some of the best such as Evil Eye and Off at the Next Exit. Dont think you can find Evil Eye on itunes
Soul Love i've always liked and like hearing the slightly different version of it at his gigs. Four Letter Word and Flick of the Finger both great openers.
Think one reason i like a fair few BDI songs are that i havent over played them like many Oasis songs. Always enjoyed the gigs i went to

When people are talking about them Bonus songs - It's pretty obvious to me there was a conscious choice to avoid that Beatles-esque kinda style. At least in the most obvious sense like it was on DGSS. Evil Eye and World Not Set In Stone 100% fall into that category.
