Once sounds pretty good, hope Liam wrote it on his own. But the melody sounds like something the guy who wrote FWIW would do. I disagree The melody of fwiw is a generic pop melody this feels way more inspired and deep

One of the biggest juxtapositions in opinion from this forum and general fans is definetely FWIW.
It's loved by the masses and definetely worked as Liams anthem for AYW. Goes down really well live and sold alot of copies.
On here it's treated as some Robbie Williams style generic plodder.

This mass here also loves it. 😊 Especially the way Liam sounds at the first few words, butterflies each and every time.

Yeah, I can see why some could find it a little cheesy but I absolutely love it, one of the best songs Liam has sung on since Oasis.

I love the verses on for what its worth but I never got into the chorus and the cheese levels explode on the middle eight. the air studios chorus is much more pleasurable though imo.
biggest issue I have with FWIW is the retro instrumental, I thought it was going to have a modern sound like once has tbh.

Yeah, the middle 8 is a true cheddar party.

Yeah I could never get into FWIW from first listen. You can't deny it's popularity though.
I've listened to the short clip of this again tonight and it sounds really great.

I know there are people who are waiting to listen to 'Once' and are reading this thread and saying this is all hype and the people loving these clips are just caught up in the moment. I often do hold off listening to tracks and I often believe there is a 'hype' just because something is new. This time I did listen. To the people who are waiting.....
Great job, I admire it This one is hard to resist but as to your concerns that it is hype, I'm hear to say it is not. The clips are the real deal. This is one 'early sneak peak' that truly justifies the hype.
It's amazing. I will say, however, it probably hits the oasis fan more than a non-fan because while the song sounds like a great song, it is the meaning behind the song that oasis fans can relate to more than others.

For a man who once declared himself unable to write a big chorus he's done alright here. As far as songs written about Noel go it's a big step up from Don't Brother Me.

I tell myself I should hate it but end up enjoying it. Not too keen on it live, it is ok in an acoustic gig but when Liam's in full rockstar mode he kind of butchers the chorus.

Maybe declaring it as one of the best Gallagher songs ever is a bit of an exaggeration haha but it definitely has potential to be up there with the all time greatest from either brothers in my opinion.

He doesnt try to hold the notes.
ive all I need is a great song but Im not bothered about him singing it live tbh.

OK this is total John Lennon. Like don't kid yourself. It's Liam doing Lennon more than any other song!
That's not a bad thing. I like the sound of this so far

I only wish solo Lennon made a song like "Once". Instead he went crazy political for awhile and went off the deep end in the mid 70s only to retire for 5 years.

I haven't heard Once yet BUT Lennon (after the Beatles) wrote: Imagine, Woman, Jealous Guy, God, Real Love, Watching the Wheels, Mind Games, Love...

My point being that between 1972 and 1980 there was a huge void in Lennon material and quality material. And nothing between 75-80. His solo career really is defined between 1970-1971.

I like the sound of this so far It's funny how as Liam has further gone into his career hes just left himself completely open to the Lennon/Beatles rips where as in early Oasis at least you had to go looking for solos or bits of riffs here and there.

DGSS was essentially Liams wet dream I expect, he got to live out an album that couldve been released in the 60s.
most of Liams songs have some kind of obvious lennon / beatles reference or influence in there somewhere. Even im outta time has that lennon speech tacked on the end in poor fashion.
the likely difference between say Noel and Liam is that Noel likes the beatles etc amongst other things whereas Liam has always been mostly about lennon. Almost like having a new crush and you cant help but dropping her name every 5 minutes.

This is a very lennonesque tune which I even going back to BOADC and Im Outta Time would wince at, and don't get me started on BE, but this gave me goosebumps. I have no idea why either. Maybe it's just because Liam sounds really good on it. Shockwave to me is Oasis/Liam by numbers--totally generic, but also quite an earworm. This one sounds special to me and I can't understand it. The answer is probably melody and lyrics, but I'm just so pleasantly surprised. It reminds me of the first time i heard Stop Crying Your Heart Out.

I like that the lyrics genuinely create an image too. You cant say that for many Liam songs.
Like you can easily imagine this being about Liam and Noel through childhood, or you can just relate so much to your own shit.
For as much as Oasis had some nonsensical lyrics, I always think the best songs actually had alot of meaning in the lyrics aswell as the great melody.

Noel was perfectly right in saying that the best songs are the songs that you dont know the meaning to. you find connections in songs that you can apply to your own life. Any song that is written about a particular, obvious subject can never have the same impact. think thats why oasis is so universal, none of their songs really have much meaning, you build your own.

Its a tough line to tread but I think this stays just the right side of twee. That's something I thought FWIW struggled with.
