What do people think of the “clean the pool, send the kids to school” line? Is it the new “cops are taking over, everyone is in yoga” line? Pewel, Scewel & Wonce are the new Shieeeiyne 👍

Ermm, hold on. Live Forever, Wonderwall, DLBIA, maybe Champagne Supernova are classics. that's about it for Oasis. Once is a good song, classic is a tad much. "Once" is a classic. If it's not for you, that's ok.For me its a 10/10.CLASSIC. I suppose for some people classics stop in 1995...not for me. You cant compare everything to anything. Take it as it is. otherwise we ll start thinking...If Once was an Oasis song it would be a #1 (probably a #2) in the charts n with such a strong melody, great lyrics and great vocals by Liam people will consider it a classic....plus... if Bohemian Rapsody or Strawberry Fields Forever or Live Forever is a 10 should i compare every song with them? It doesnt work like this. A classic is a song that defines an era, it's not up to personal taste. Did Once leave a mark on history ? It didn't. It probably won't. There are many songs that are as good or even great post 95, thank you. But most are not classics. A classic is a very specific term that relies on cultural impact on a generation or several generations, not just 1000 plays in 7 days in your headphones. A classic does not become a classic overnight.

A classic is a very specific term that relies on cultural impact on a generation or several generations, not just 1000 plays in 7 days in your headphones. A classic does not become a classic overnight. People love hyperbole (whether saying something is crap or something is amazing - and whatever side of an argument they're on). I really like Once. I think it's a very good song and I can see it getting a lot of radio play. It has its faults. That strange middle eight still seems a bit jarring and the lyrics in the verses seem to have been cobbled together but at the same time it works for Liam's voice and Liam is the main focus. The chorus is brilliant, and really really lifts the song. It's - for me - an 8/10 and up there with Liam's best solo stuff. But yeh, classic is a bit much. As you rightly say, a classic is a song/album that ultimately defines something when looking back down the line. Whether that something is a band or a time or a person or an attitude, whatever. Oasis had a fair few. You've listed four and you could probably argue for several more songs off those first two albums (which are undoubtedly classics) and b-sides etc that are (The Masterplan, Slide Away, Some Might Say etc). Saying it comes close to those just seems recency bias and hyperbolic. In the same sense that as much as I love Holy Mountain and count it as one of Noel's best 15 songs (even if it just creeps in there) I won't say it's a classic.

If Once was an Oasis song it would be a #1 (probably a #2) in the charts If Once was an Oasis song, it would have better backing vocals, a better middle 8 and an epic ad lib at the end thus fulfilling it's potential as a classic Oasis anthem. As it stands now with it's balls tied up and minimal Katey Perry wannabe 2019 production... Not so much.

Weird that it seems to bother some people here that so many really like Once. It just bothers certain people here when Liam succeeds. Go back to when Beady Eye were on the decline if you need a good laugh. The one who posts the cats in particular was revelling in it. Stuff like "Liam just isnt popular anymore" was amongst the best quotes.

The funniest thing is that you can say who's going to hate a new song from liam or who is gonna find some weird defects long before the song is out Obsessed

Some can't say anything completely positive, even when they like the song they always have to get a little dig in somewhere, whether that is production or a lyric. There has to be SOMETHING wrong. It does amuse me.

Because Noel would be involved Noel wasn't shitting gold towards the back end of Oasis and as leron points out I'm not sure how much he helped Liam.

To be clear, Shockwave and The River are right up my alley, and so is Once, only wish it was longer.
Just occurred to me that middle 8 could sound epic live if band could pull some kind of volume build up with increasingly louder guitars and drums (and orch keys too) just in time for the resolution in the last chorus...
(ie the way last 2 choruses enter in DLBIA ...)

The songwriting as such on Once is brilliant, the production is underwhelming though in many ways, in my opinion. Point in case; Noel coming up with playing Songbird acoustic instead of the electric demo.

It's 2019: Once is a song Liam sings and Noel does his music. Corrected. Sorry couldn't help it. It would be interesting to do a poll to see the age of forum members and their opinion on Liam and Noel's new career. Maybe that's where the gap comes from ? And maybe try to put the debate on that thread only, where we can talk, exchange and stuff.

I think you’d be surprised.

I'm 47. I'm a fan since the beginning of Oasis.
Liam sung Noel's songs. And now he sings his and others writers songs.
He's always been a singer. The voice of Oasis. He has been very very important for the Oasis success.
And to be fair a lot of Noel lyrics were nonsense and shallow... but today everyone is SO negative about everything Liam sings.
Oasis are the past. Sadly. But they are still making - in my opinion - good music.
I'm happy.
(but tired about this liam vs. noel and today vs. yesterday)

I'm 44. 1st saw Oasis at Glastonbury in 93 (didn't know who they were, was just sat there on the Sunday) My opinion is, and always has been that Oasis was about Liam. Other very notable, successful musicians can and have written good, very good and classic songs. The number of singers who can transform/elevate/improve the quality of any song and convey that emotion so that it connects with the fans are as rare as rocking horse shit. P.S My lad is 19 - he loves Liam and went several times along with a load of his mates on the AYW tour, he/they wouldn't watch Noel if he was doing an exclusive acoustic show in our back garden.

I'm 37 and have seen oasis / Liam / Noel / Beady eye combines over 20 times
And I think Once is a classic
And whilst I enjoy Noel, I much prefer Liam's music

Oasis are the past. Sadly. But they are still making - in my opinion - good music. I'm happy. (but tired about this liam vs. noel and today vs. yesterday) the difference about the lyrics is, that early oasis lyrics like supersonic, never were supposed to be deep or meaningful. liam's lyrics, though, you can tell, are supposed to be exactly that. unfortunately, he's not a good lyricist. some of them are just bad, some are even cringeworthy. even though noel has become a bit of a vagina latelty and i despise some of his live renditions (scyho is awful!!!), i like his music better than what liam does. at least, he's trying to evolve a bit, getting away from the formula he's been using for the last 30 years. liam's music sounds as if he was still stuck in 2001... in the bad way. if at least he was making good music, but he's not. 80% of what he did after oasis split up, is gargabe to me. i would love if it would be different, but it's not, unfortunately. i wish him all the best and success, but as an oasis fan from the beginning, i don't understand how he can be so successful with what he's been doing with beady eye and as a solo artist.
