I was watching an interview that Liam did after the PinkPop festival in 2017 ( -- see about 5:45 in that clip) where Liam claims that the real reason for the trouble on the ill-fated ferry trip in Amsterdam in February of 1994 was that the band was accused by the staff of passing forged £50 notes on the trip. Liam explains that Guigsy had just left his job at British Telecom and had "£5,000-6,000 in £50 notes" on him that they were spending on champagne. In all the accounts of the incident that I have read or seen, this is the first time I have heard this part of the story. I'm curious if there is anything else out there in any of the various books or magazine articles that back up Liam's account. I'm not doubting him. In fact, this seems more likely as a scenario than the "story" we have heard all these years about West Ham fans and fights, since there seems to be no reason for a bunch of West Ham fans to have been heading over to Amsterdam at that time. It's odd that this account wasn't included in Supersonic, though it isn't as entertaining a story as Liam causing chaos on the casino floor.
