Such an American-biased view of the band: "But those comparisons donât hold up when you look at overall careers. Other 1990s acts like Green Day, the Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam stayed strong for multiple decades. Oasisâ run was essentially over by 2000 when âStanding on the Shoulder of Giantsâ failed to match the commercial success of 1997âs polarizing âBe Here Now.â" Apparently, selling 6 million copies of Don't Believe The Truth world wide (which is 3x what SOTSOG sold and only 2 million short of what BHN did) isn't a commercial success. Granted, it only sold about 200,000 in the US compared to 1 million in the US for BHN, but 6 million world wide is nothing to shake a stick at -- especially for a band with a "lack of longevity" as the author claims.

Iâve never ever believed the 6 million sales for DBTT. And people been saying that since around 2010ish. It sold 900,000 in the UK, their home base and strongest support. It sold only 200,000 in America, the largest market for music sales. So that is roughly 1.1 million copies. So where is Oasis making up almost 5 million in sales? The next biggest markets are Germany and Japan and I doubt that if you added that tally up its prob under 250,000. So Oasis still needs to find 4.7 million copies to shift. I think people are having fun on Wiki or reporters not fact checking.

I think people are having fun on Wiki or reporters not fact checking. Perhaps they did some fuzzy math with digital copies. I believe it was the first Oasis album that came with the digital copy if you bought a physical copy. So, if you double up those and add whatever actual digital sales they had + streams (which now count towards sales for charting purposes), it may actually get you close to that number. I agree that it seems like a stretch.

Such an American-biased view of the band Before you dismiss the writer, just remember that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is American.

I thought the band had to be together in order to be inducted into the RnR Hall of Fame?

I agree that it seems like a stretch. I donât recall that when I bought my copy. It did come with a bonus live CD from Chicago 1994. And I doubt that counts. Again the sales totals that are quoted often for DBTT is way off the mark.

Before you dismiss the writer, just remember that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is American. Well aware. A family friend ran the hall for a while . Very cool! The reason why I brought that point up is because the Hall's voters think like Americans. So before everyone freaks out about what really is a meaningless institution, they should be warned as to why there's a possibility that Oasis aren't voted in. I mean, if The Smiths aren't in the RRHoF, what makes anyone think Oasis will be? I thought the band had to be together in order to be inducted into the RnR Hall of Fame? Nope. If that was the case, 75% of their inductees would have been ineligible!

I found this independent research which backs you up and provides a breakdown between physical, download and streaming: chartmasters.org/2017/12/cspc-oasis-popularity-analysis/24/. It's worth a read, as he goes into detail about his methodology and admits its a best guess based on available data. For all we know, Ignition bases its number off of units produced/shipped, not necessarily those sold at the end point of sale. Or, if you are more pessimistic, perhaps it is just overly inflated because why not/who is going to question it.

If the Gallagher's ever agreed to play together for the induction, then they'd be in. It's about playing the game with these people. Otherwise... never gonna happen.

This is an American award, as mentioned above.....or, being popular, or something.....there's an influential element as well. OasĂs were only popular in America from 1995 to 1997, and were seen as derivative more than influential, I don't know.....
The Cure just got in....yeah.
God bless.
