From what I can remember: -Broken Arrow: Noel capo 9th, Tim capo 2nd -Riverman: Noel capo 8th, Tim capo 1st -You Know We Can't Go Back: Noel capo 6th, Tim capo 4th -She Taught Me How to Fly: Noel no capo, Gem capo 3rd And with Oasis: -Up In The Sky: Noel no capo, Bonehead capo 3rd -A Bell Will Ring: Noel capo 2nd, Gem no capo with his guitar tuned a half step down Add one more to that list. Noel capo 2nd, Gem no capo In fact, I think it sounds brilliant, but really leave the Oasis feeling.

I think I heard Gem say that because he has abnormal thumbs, he doesnt really play barre chords either. Might be making that up. I think Gem often uses the same method as Graham Coxon for Barre chords, which is the way i often do it too. Use your 4 fingers for 5 strings, barring the 2 thinnest strings with your first finger..but then your thumb over the top over the low E to fret the lowest note. I believe Hendrix aways used that way too. It's a bit weird at first because your thumb placement would usually be a bit further forward than the note you need to fret, so you have to re-adjust your thumb back and then put it over the neck. It's probably harder work than barre chords really, but i think it just depends how you learned to play. I grew up learning Jazz guitar and it was often a common method so you can keep a chord and melody going but switch bass notes with your thumb.

I would've thought it's because he's singing, not because he's lazy You wouldn't need to concentrate as much on playing if most of your chords are played as open chords. If you're up and down the neck using barre chords, jumping between frets, then it's going to take a bit more concentration and accuracy. Pretty much all the songs he was singing in Oasis live had him playing open chords, for that same reason.

yes. of course, you have to understand what a capo does and why it is used.
