Heathen Chemistry < Don't Believe The Truth < High Flying Birds < Dig Out Your Soul < Standing on the Shoulders of Giants < Chasing Yesterday < Who Built the Moon?
Who Built the Moon? is easily his best material in the last twenty years.

Not really a fan of Chasing Yesterday in that it hasn’t aged that well for me. I can see Noel trying to go in a different direction at times (even if it is merely a slight change) which is a foretells the amazing Who Built The Moon, but it’s at its absolute worst with the standard hom-hum tunes that we’d come to expect from Noel. Girl With X Ray Eyes is just one of the most appalling songs from anything Oasis related, Lcok All The Doors is embarrassing and You Know We Can’t Go Back is what Be Here Now would have sounded like if it was a tepid album. Riverman and While The Song Remains... are the highlights for me. Outstanding tunes. Aside from that, I really fear a creative luddite Dave Sardy overseeing another Noel project again. He’ll appeal to Noel’s worst impulses and what we’ll end up with is an 11 track dud full of dad rock crap like the tunes mentioned above. Aside from dadrock Lock All the Doors, Chasing Yesterday still is a solid outing. The production was a breath of fresh air from Sardy's overproduced mess - and dear lord his mixing. HFB feels more like a corporate product rather than having its own voice like CY and WBTM?. And I like You Know We Can't Go back .

What did like more about it? Basically I think that these days Chasing Yesterday feels like an awkward middle-child between the straight-forward songs of NGHFB and the colourful magic of Who Built the Moon. Plus, I just really like a lot of the first album's songs haha, The Death of You and Me, What a Life!, and Broken Arrow are all wonderful, plus Everybody's on the Run, Dream On, and Stranded on the Wrong Beach. Throw Alone on the Rope and Let the Lord Shine a Light on Me on there as I've done, and it's a very good solo album.

It's weird how everyone has a different view on Noel's 3 solo albums. Chasing Yesterday is by far my favourite largely because of the production rather than the actual songs being better.

Chasing yesterday his best batch of tunes in years , his debut was good song wise but production poor ..who built the moon hit and miss .. his tunes on the oasis albums were still quality but chasing yesterday is a brilliant album

It's an interesting question. I'm going to go with Yes. While there are some major highs on the MK 2 records, there's also a lot of crap. I find Noel's solo output consistently solid without much filler or complete crap. In fact, NGHFB is so consistent for me, that I wouldn't rate anything above 8.5 or below a 7 (maybe shift the posts depending on how hard or easy you rate songs). But basically a variance of 1.5. CY and WBTM have a bit more variance (higher highs, lower lows), but they aren't like HC, which is all over the place.

Yes from me, the biggest difference being that there is more energy and vibrancy building with each album for nghfb but with latter day oasis it was most definitely getting the big machine through another album and tour, Noel held songs back because he could, we all bought the album's anyway, now he has something to prove again, same with Liam, they are better with back's to the wall trying to fight their way back to the top, latter day oasis just went through the motions

Not for me. Hasn't come close. Noel's solo stuff has been a huge disappointment to me, so much so that I haven't bought any releases since the first album, and I haven't even listened to that in years.

The remixes are all that I'm interested in after the first NGHFB album. The regular NGHFB releases are mostly either boring or bad or both of it.

Definitely yes. The average quality of the songs is simply much better. Noel's ouput in the 00s was irregular at best, and the songs by the rest of the guys were not very good (being kind). DOYS was a bit better and had TSOTL and FD in it, but still half of the album was almost unlistenable

Yeah for sure NGHFB and Chasing Yesterday are better than Heathen Chemistry and Don't Believe The Truth respectively but Dig Out Your Soul fucks WBTM? up.

Good thread, finally a reasonable comparison!
1. Chasing Yesterday 2. Don't Believe The Truth 3. NGHFB 4. Who Built The Moon 5. Dig Out Your Soul 6. Heathen Chemistry
Was able to rate these without much thought tbh, CY the clear winner.
WBTM might have squeezed it's way to 3rd place if it wasnt for its horrible lows, because the good songs are great, but far too few (much like DOYS). WBTM just wasn't interesting a new direction enough, it's a real shame. STMHTF was fantastic though.

In songwriting--positively. But there are multiple moments on multiple albums where I really wish I could get a circa '98 Liam vocal.
