The Importance of Being Idle. Comfortably.

Idle wins in all respects except live: LBL is always a real standout, with oasis and HFB. Maybe it’s just because it was a bigger single in North America compared to TIOBI but LBL has a definite edge in concert.

Post BHN they all were just farts in the wind with the minor exception of Shock of the Lightning breaking into the top 100 on Billboard. That was in 2008. A lifetime ago now. Fuck.

LBL is more of the same, albeit great... but TIOBI was at the time something fresh and completely new for the fellas.
Better song: TIOBI Preference: TIOBI

Easiest poll to vote on I’ve ever seen here.
Idle.

We usually think about Noel melodies centering around the chorus, but the verses of TIOBI are some of the prettiest he ever wrote. I lost my faith in the summer-time...

TIOBI is great although overrated.

Little By Little was the first Oasis song that got my attention as an 11 year old. It has sentimental value to it for that reason, but Idle is a great tune. Honestly think that, along with Shock of the Lightning, the best Oasis single post 97.

Love every second of TIOBI. The opening, the falsetto, the piano, the middle bit, the end. It's all good.

I think Tiobi was the turning point for Noel. I think it's when he and others realized he could a solo artist and was breaking out of his songwriting slump. To me he has become a great singer since then

I would like LBL more if the lyrics didn't make me want to pour bleach into my ears

I recall hearing/seeing GLIO and Lyla in Texas quite often when they were released.

I would like LBL more if the lyrics didn't make me want to pour bleach into my ears True perfection has to be imperfect, mate. I do know that that must sound foolish, but believe me, it is true innit.

Idle is still one of my favourite oasis songs. Not even one of my favourite Noel songs, or Oasis 2.0 song. One of my top 10 oasis songs full stop.
It's so fresh and every time I hear it, it sounds new. One of the last GREAT songs Noel wrote

It's so fresh and every time I hear it, it sounds new. One of the last GREAT songs Noel wrote In terms of truly great pop songs, it was probably the last. I enjoy a lot of his later work more (Holy Mountain, for instance) but for just an honest-to-God bit of brilliant verse-bridge-chorus pop, TIOBI is the last one I could mention with the stuff he wrote in the 90s.

It is just a great song. The idea that it is about laziness is just perfect. Written and not properly recorded, because he couldn't be arsed. Decent (but not amazing) solo, because he couldn't be arsed. Layered in the middle of a good album that he contributed an all-time low song onto, because he couldn't be arsed. Majestic

Little By Little all the way.

TIOBI is one of my big Oasis black spots tbh.
I never actively listen to it and probably never will.
