The melody is different. Very, very slightly, but it is different.
Sounds ace though, great to hear. What a voice!

Parts are amazing but he goes a bit out of tune trying to hold those long higher notes. It would probably have torn his voice to shreds live/on tour, hence Noel’s logical choice to sing it himself Why didn’t he sing She’s Electric then?

Maybe because Step out is a much more shouty forceful song than She's electric. The shoutiness plus high notes might be a risky combo for Liam. Just speculating *shrug*

Lest we forget Lord Don't Slow Me Down... I actually don’t think Liam sounds good on that song. And I also feel Noel sings Step Out better. Sure it’s exciting to get these alternate takes with Liam, always cool to hear such things and have in the collection but I think Oasis got the right singer for both songs. Granted each of them are just ok tunes to begin with. If anything, they could've had Liam on vocals for the B-side version and then had Noel sing it live, similar to what they did with She's Electric in the early-2000s, but it would've been mega to have Liam sing it live in the MG era at a gig like Maine Road... I get goosebumps just thinking about it. It's a good tune, minus how it ripped off some bits of Stevie Wonder's Uptight, and would've shined in a live setting with Liam on vocals. I do enjoy Noel's SOTSOG Tour performances, like the Familiar to Millions version, where it doesn't sound as polished as the album version does. I always said that Liam should have sung every song, and this just backs up that belief. My thought exactly! Hope more recordings like this with Liam on vocals will see the light of day. I would sooooo love to see a video of MG-era Liam doing DLBIA. That would be pretty cool, I can imagine, even if Noel was perfect for the song.

That was great, but don't come here trying to tell me that the Noel-sung version is not.

That was great, but don't come here trying to tell me that the Noel-sung version is not. The song is fine. Always thought Noel's vocal was pretty atrocious though. He sounds like a small American boy.

I actually really dislike Step Out (not sure if it’s because it’s just too much of a rip off even by Noel’s standards) but Liam’s voice could maybe have elevated it to something else.
Noel’s voice grates on me on this song and thank fuck it got cut from MG, having two Noel’s songs when Liam was literally the best rock vocalist in the world at that time would have been criminal

It sounds great, but when someone mixed these vocals with an actual track, you can hear that he doesn't quite reach the notes - you can hear it on youtube
Nowadays it wouldn't be a problem, but before autotune you couldn't easily fix issues like this

Right at the top of his range, but he just about makes it. Definitely think they should’ve used Liam’s vox over Noel’s. While Liam still sounded like this Noel should’ve got Don’t Look Back in Anger, The Masterplan, and those melancholic B-sides (Talk Tonight, Going Nowhere, etc.) to sing, and nothing else. Hindsight’s a wonderful thing, though. Liam should have sang those, too.

And it wouldn’t be the same song taken down a key. I’m sure he could’ve done a great Masterplan—think the first few minutes of Champagne Supernova for the verses—but, to me, that song as it is now is the just about the most perfect recording Oasis ever made, so I’m not too bothered about him not getting the chance to sing it.

Really annoys me that Oasis didn't do more duets. Acquiesce and Let There Be Love are both fan favourites for a specific reason.
OK, too many of them would have been too much. But, imagine how amazinf The Masterplan or DLBIA would be if they both sang lead Vox.

I was wondering, were the SOTSOG album tracks plus Let's All Make Believe the only songs that Liam would have recorded vocals for? I'd love to hear a vocal like the PYMWYMI on Full On, hopefully there is one knocking about somewhere.

One of the best instrumentals on the album...if there were more meaningful lyrics then this would be a classic. Change my mind.

I see your point, this with liar liar, pants on fire must be one of Noel's worst lyric wise. Good instrumentales let down by shit lyrics. Full on should've been on the album instead of one of these two, if it was written in time to be released in the album, thats it.
