What impress me the most is the number of streams of Wonderwall. A british indie rock song getting hundreds of millions of streams, still popular today, even for people who don't care for rock music, is strange and great at the same time.

What impress me the most is the number of streams of Wonderwall. A british indie rock song getting hundreds of millions of streams, still popular today, even for people who don't care for rock music, is strange and great at the same time. The thing about the popularity of Wonderwall is I am sure if you played a lot of their other tunes to somebody who enjoys it they would also enjoy the rest of the music Oasis created in that period. But there is a bit of a perception that that is their only big song (in Australia and by extension America that is). It takes the listener to go and have a listen to their albums to realise how good and how big these guys are rather than knowing them as a band. Wonderwall as a song is far bigger than Oasis in the rest of the world, why? No clue. I think a big part of that is marketing. So many people will walk around with Dark side of the moon shirts without having a clue about the name of the song on the album. Pink Floyd as a band is a bigger name than the song they produced, Red Hot Chilli Peppers as well sell a shit tonne of merch, comparatively Oasis is a band that is closer to the hearts of many. So is it a bad thing that Oasis aren't bigger in America? To me no, I know in Australia it would probably piss me off if I saw people walking around in shirts related to Oasis despite not having a clue about them, people only knowing Wonderwall is annoying enough (despite it normally not being their fault). Another thing with Oasis is they have a dedicated following, I think most people that really like them would list them as their favourite band. They are pretty easy to identify with when you're a teenager I think and they are funny as fuck, as well as having the attitude, music, songwriting ability, and singer to align themselves with great bands. I like that they're a bit of an underdog and not everybody has heard of them personally.

Its interesting.... to think what they couldve been if some things happened differently in the 90s, but really ? They are still one of the biggest bands of all time at this point but its still somehow not enough for some people! I guess thats what happens when the band itself obssessed over this We're the biggest and best schtik for so long

Is this list real? Interesting to see The Beatles so low on it.

Said this a million times before but I'll never understand the obsession on this forum with sales, charts and popularity in America.
It is what it is - they're both multi-millionaires, Oasis was briefly the biggest band in the world at their peak and both Gallaghers are amongst the biggest artists in their home country 20+ years on. I don't think either Liam or Noel lose sleep about America and it certainly doesn't prevent anyone from enjoying their music.

haven't read much of the posts on this thread tnh but ive seen Noel twice in US in recent years in great venues- with a packed and very enthusiastic crowd both times. i think there is still mad respect here- and that's passing on to a new generation of Americans- like my young daughter. i would have seen Liam last go around as well...but he cancelled lol (some things never change) - then i couldn't be arsed about seeing him anymore - tho i could be tempted again next time...

Was watching the DBTT MSG gig the other day. They certainly had a resurgence in popularity with their last two albums. Also, it's very funny watching Americans do reaction videos to the first time they here Oasis. It seems to be a big trend on YouTube atm There's plenty of others!

I think that says more about the U.K. music scene more so than it does about Oasîs, considering Oasïs haven't been a band for going on 10 years, and haven't been really relevant to music for over 20 years.... I live in America, and I don't know even what the biggest band here is.....or, what's the biggest band on the world stage....? The Arctic Monkeys? I don't listen to boy bands, so.... I would say the best band going is either Arcade Fire or Tame Impala, but, I don't know, I have gray chest hair and I party, it's crazy, gray chest hair.....regardless, it's Funday, and I need to put the vibe out.... Thanks.

Thanks. Hahha! But yeh, you're right, it does say more about the UK's state of guitar music. There are big bands, but nobody that anybody really cares about. There's the Courteeners, that have this cult-like following - but it's all a bit try-hard and I can't really stand it. Catfish & The Bottlemen are big in terms of sell out shows (now arenas, and smallish outdoor gigs - not Knebworth/Finsbury Park level). DMA's (an Aussie band) have cracked big in the UK now but they're probably not gonna get any bigger than the current academy venues/support slots. I don't know, it just seems that a third album (which is what there next one will be) is a bit late to make the leap to arena gigs, though they are excellent. The Arctic Monkeys are probably the biggest band on a global scale (from the UK) and yeh, I reckon Arcade Fire are up there. In terms of 'current' bands, Queens of the Stone Age etc. Same with Coldplay - but they're more like U2 level now imo. It's more in terms of the feeling around the band. Everyone is just a bit boring :/

On topic, fuck the Arctic Monkeys.....they're really talented but they're not that great, and they're boring....on top of having an awful band name. Speaking of boring, everyone's boring, I'm boring, but, relatively speaking I'm super fun comparatively speaking.....fuck, Donald Trump's not boring, either....he's a complete idiot, but not boring. Everyone needs to enjoy life more, we're here for such a short time, relatively speaking.......most of the people on the forum act like they're taking a test or something....Oasïs aren't even a band anymore! Have fun! Also, post some cat pics.... Thanks.

Oasis seem to be a novelty band in the US, where they’ll stick Wonderwall in a tv show to look cool/indie/hipster/nostalgic etc

I’d like to do a YouTube reaction video of a YouTube reaction video.
Who the fuck came up with the ‘reaction video’ anyhow? Are we all really that bored these days?!

First of all, off topic, my hair looks really cute today.....I might take a pic and post it, in this thread.... On topic: Oasis doesn't, or should I say, didn't, market their music to teenage girls and soccer mom's like the Arctic Monkeys.... Thanks.

A boy band must consist of:
A) Male band members. B) Target a majority teen audience at their peak and young adults in general.
C) Be mainstream at their peak, in other words, be popular.
In any case, it doesn't matter what either of us really think as fans. Americans who generally know of Oasis, but aren't necessarily fans of the band tend to view Oasis as a boy band. I used to scoff at this opinion too. But I was a bit biased. These days, I just accept it as true, because it's not going to stop me from loving Oasis.

We definitely have a different definiton of boy band.....you're being a little pedantic and I'm being a little sarcastic.... Nonetheless, my hair looks really cute today....styled by this shampoo and tequila...I have enough tequila and Dos Equís in my beard to get three people drunk. www.aveda.com/product/5310/16731/hair-care/mens-hair-care/aveda-men-pure-formance-shampoo#/shade/10.1_fl_oz%2F300_mlThanks.

The "mainstream" music scene here in America is so fucking dire right now. Want good music, you won't find it on television, or on the radio. Not even on the so-called "alternative" stations anymore, because let's face it most of what is called alternative nowadays is just more of the same pissy-pop in disguise, with a layer of electric guitar thrown over it. It's getting to the point where you need to hit the small local music clubs, and dig thru dusty crates at your local indie record shops. That's where the good stuff really is. 👍👍

Just wondering...
Was there any particular reason why Oasis seemed to shoot up in popularity in the US around 2005?
They hardly toured the US in 2002. A really short tour - made even shorter by Noel's injury - and that was it, in August/September 2002.
By 2005 it was selling out MSG and Red Rocks/Hollywood Bowl etc.
Given that the first of their US tours in 2005 was in June, and the album was only released in May, that must surely mean that they'd got a hint that the demand was there? Always found it strange as it's not like they booked the tour months after the album came out?
