There was supposed to be a Divine Comedy double album in the works, but now Neil Hannon is doing the music for the stage version of Father Ted, so that might be some way off now. Looks like The Divine Comedy's 12th album is definitely on for next year: thedivinecomedy.com/news/2018-neils-christmas-message

My new year can't start better with The Twilight Sad's 5th album, out on 18th January 2019!
2018 has been an another great musical year for me. Pretty great new releases in 2018 - Johnny, Mastersystem, Weller, Kathryn Joseph etc and went to see following bands:
- Liam - Noel - This Is The Kit - Johnny (album launch show) - Patti Smith (An Evening with words and music) - BRMC - Patti Smith with her band x 2 - Weller x 2 (special acoustic show) - Mark Lanegan - Echo and The Bunnymen - The Twilight Sad - Johnny (again)
Sadly we lost Scot Hutchison and Pete Shelly this year, but their music will keep living.
Hpefully to discover more great music and to see good bands in 2019 too.
This section is my favourite part of this forum. I love to read all the posts and recommendations by other members. I'm not naive enough to believe music saves world, but music brings us together. I can't think my life without music.
Stay safe everyone and see you next year!

Sharon Van Etten - Remind Me Tomorrow (January 19, 2019) The 1975 - Notes on a Conditional Form (May 31, 2019) Run the Jewels - Run the Jewels 4 Grimes These New Puritans My Bloody Valentine?
I think that something that will be a higher priority for me this year than looking forward to new albums is going back to albums released in 2018. There was such a stunning diversity of music released last year that I only started to discover in its last few months. Time to catch up!

Tame Impala may have an album out this year? Fuck yeah!
Parker's featured on tracks by Rihanna, Kendrick, and Travis Scott since we last saw him, which excites me for his inevitable full-throated embrace of new hip hop influences. Because that's what made Currents great. It was the sound of a pretentious indie boy who thought music with guitars was superior to everything else discovering that the music he'd previously disdained was, in fact, fantastic. Funny how people called Currents a breakup album, because that's exactly what it was: only the breakup was Parker's with indie guitar music.

It’s been over 3.5 years!!! I’ve long feared Kevin might go the Coldplay or Kings of Leon route. He’s getting poppier and poppier it seems and is rubbing elbows with some of the biggest music stars in the world. There is nothing wrong with that. It’s his life. But I am worried. I’ve seen this shit happen before.

I’ve seen this shit happen before. I think we don't need to be worried. Kevin Parker is more talented than either Chris Martin or the Followill brothers, and his recent musical contributions on Travis Scott and Rihanna's albums were as producer on a few tracks, not like Chris who did cringe guest appearances on some pop albums. Hardly someone trying to sell out by being poppy. A better comparison for what Parker's been up to is Justin Vernon collaborating with Kanye, James Blake, and Francis and the Lights. And that didn't make the next Bon Iver album any less compelling, in fact it made it by far the most radical thing Vernon has done. I'd welcome something along the lines of Currents with more hip-hop influences, because I'm not a huge fan of Tame Impala's first two albums. They're not bad but their 60s psychedelica feels like it only goes backwards a touch too often for my tastes.

They may not be the most sophisticated band, but I think Busted’s release will be my favorite album of 2019 - really have enjoyed the four singles so far.

The Who will do a new album!
One of my favourite bands of all time. Their last record is from 2006, so it's been a long time. Can't wait for it.

The Who haven’t really been The Who since Keith Moon died. Now half the members are dead. And those are big time missing members. It’s not like Bonhead, Guigs or Alan leaving.

Along with Twilight Sad and Erland Cooper, Michael Kiwanuka has one out this year which will be good, and I’m also excited for the trio of Ryan Adams albums. The Karen O/Danger Mouse collaboration sounds really good from what I heard so far too. If Liam’s one is more in your face and punky as he suggested, then I’ve got high hopes for it as well.

Fans of Neil Young's guitar heavy work will be pleased to learn that the Ragged Glory (1990) album will be re-issued as a 2CD with a whole bunch of songs that have never been heard before from the Neil Young Archives.
I just learned about this today
Ragged Glory : Massive Discoveries in the vault! NYA12-14-18
Crazy Horse’s ‘Ragged Glory’ album will be twice the size in its next release. J. Hanlon has found more of the Crazy Horse album from 1990. Listening to these tracks is a real head scratcher. They are equal to anything on the existing record, maybe better. Possibly, the thought at the time was to have a single album and not include the songs from the last half of the unique ‘set oriented’ recording sessions.
Those sessions were unique because the band played a set of songs twice a day at Plywood Analog for a couple of weeks, then went back, listened and chose best tracks after the two weeks were up. The Ragged Glory was picked from those tracks. The same tracks were never repeated in a recording set, played only once as set. . . . and the band moved right on to the next song. No repeats. This approach took ‘analysis’ out of the game during the sessions, allowing the Horse to not think; thinking is deadly for the Horse.
After the songs were played enough so that the band was sure they must have the takes, the Horse, having a great time, kept playing other songs. . . Five songs, with two versions of one, and one long extended take of another, yielded another 38 minutes of Crazy Horse classics, mostly undiscovered and unheard before.
Ragged Glory II, the double album, will be announced as a stand alone LP in vinyl, CD and High resolution digital, probably released in 2019 and possibly delaying release of other announced projects.
