I was wondering what folk thought of the album Negro Swan by Blood Orange? Never thought it would be my bag - especially seeing P Diddy as a guest on one song - but I was surprised at how taken with it I was after hearing a couple of tunes on the radio. Hit and miss for me personally but got quite a lot of lovely melodies mixed in with your usual RnB tropes. Seems to mix quite a few genres so something for everyone. Lennon2217 , The Escapist , andybellwillring , given you’re choices thought you guys might enjoy it? I enjoyed it, but honestly thought it was slightly overrated on release - so many people called it AOTY instantly. I'd put it on the quality level of Courtney Barnett's Tell Me What You Really Think despite the difference in genre ; it's an album with some great melodies and moments on it, but overall just not enough memorability to make it more than a nice project that I might go back to occasionally. Feelin' a light seven.

Gonna have to go with Snail Mail’s debut album! Love this sound, plus she’s from Baltimore like me!

I ve gotta say I've enjoyed italian records more this year, but apart from those I'd say these 4 would make my top 10:
The Academic - Tales From The Backseat George Ezra - Staying At Tamara's Logic - YSIV Arctic Monkeys - Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino
Charlie Puth, Kodaline, Florence And The Machine, Miles Kane, J.Cole, Matt Maltese, Blossoms and The Good The Bad And The Queen all had solid efforts, Jungle's record wasn't bad either, still need to check out Bill Ryder-Jones' on which I've read many good things

Couldn't get into the rest of the album though, Logic is too weak a lyricist for his boom-bap to work in my opinion.

it hasn't been such a spectacular year for me. I enjoyed some new albums but I'm not blown away really, I keep skipping some tracks. anyway, if I had to make a list of the ones I've listened to the most:
KT Tunstall -WAX Khruangbin - Con Todo el Mundo Typhoon - Offerings The Teskey Brothers - Half Mile Harvest
2017 was definitely better

Yeah the Charlatans were class too

Include a ranking if you want. I listened to 9 albums released in 2018. Frank Turner is easily the best. The top 4 albums here are solid, but the rest are fairly mediocre at best. Frank Turner's 2018 release is amongst his best material, though. So well in, Frank. 1. Frank Turner - Be More Kind2. CHVRCHES - Love is Dead 3. The 1975 - A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships 4. The Wombats - Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life 5. Moose Blood - I Don't Think I Can Do This Anymore 6. The Struts - Young & Dangerous 7. Eminem - Kamikaze 8. Lily Allen - No Shame 9. The Arctic Monkeys - Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino Updated my list to include The 1975's album, which takes place three in my ranking. Frank Turner's Be More Kind remains as my favorite from this year. Four good albums - Frank Turner, CHVRCHES, The 1975, and The Wombats Three average/decent albums - Moose Blood, The Struts, Eminem Two terrible albums - Lily Allen, The Arctic Monkeys

You need to give Kacey Musgraves a listen.

I hate saying this but with each passing year I listen to complete new albums less and less. I lean heavy on cherry picking the best tracks from all the albums of artists I like. I just find it tough to find albums worthy of an hour of ur time. Guess I’m getting old. Loads of individual tracks I love. Just not full albums.

Four good albums - Frank Turner, CHVRCHES, The 1975, and The Wombats Three average/decent albums - Moose Blood, The Struts, Eminem Two terrible albums - Lily Allen, The Arctic Monkeys I dig it. Each of the top three have put out some of the best alternative/indie music over the last few years. Their albums are each pretty good. Some clunkers on the CHVRCHES and The 1975 albums, since TWOTIME... is pretty generic and Never Say Die does feel a little repetitious, but there's some very good stuff on each album too. Love It If We Made It is great, Graffiti is classic CHVRCHES and sounds awesome, and 1933 is very good and very clever. The A.M. album is alright, but the concept feels too dead-on-the-nose. Four Out of Five is kinda fun and is a good song musically, and lyrically to some lesser extent, but the rest of the album just all blends together for me. AM feels more loose, punk-like, and what we've come to know from the band but in a more updated style. I can name a few different songs from that album (Do I Wanna Know (of course), R U Mine?, One for the Road, #1 Party Anthem, Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?) when I can only name one from Tranquility (Four Out of Five). Maybe that will change over time, but it just seemed to all blend together for me.
