Let me say this right off the bat: I fucking hate Heathen Chemistry (bar the singles). I remember buying Heathen Chemistry on the US release day in the summer of 2002 and was so disappointed with it.
However, I have read constantly on this forum over the last 13 years that Heathen Chemistry's tracks sound much better live. I just brushed that aside - why the fuck do I want to hear Force of Nature, or Better Man live? May as well play The Cage while you're at it - fucking pointless nonsense the lot of it.
But over the last couple weeks, I've sought out those live tracks.
It started with the Finsbury Park's performance of Born On A Different Cloud. I have always thought BOAD is alright, but the live performance blew the album track away, especially the guitar solo at the end. Wow. I was impressed.
And then today I gave both Force of Nature (Finsbury Park), as well as Better Man (MTV Superdry) a listen, and both of those live performances were indeed better than their album counterparts - I was especially surprised with the live performance of Better Man.
Released from the shackles of the insipid album versions, the live performances actually sound fresh.
This thread is then for the discussion, as well as posting good live performances, of Heathen Chemistry tracks. (I'll start by posting the three videos mentioned in this post).
Born On A Different Cloud - Finsbury Park 2002
Force of Nature - Finsbury Park 2002
Better Man - Superdry 2002

Better Man would be great given a treatment like Columbia... it has a groove to it that the album version lacks.

Stop Crying Your Heart Out is really helped by the live setting and a massive singalong

Stop Crying Your Heart Out is really helped by the live setting and a massive singalong This is easily my favorite live performance of Stop Crying Your Heart Out (Tokyo 2002) -- you get that harmonizing magic between the two brothers when Noel joins in with the chorus. Liam looks cool as fuck here, too.

Pearl Jam’s Better Man >>>> Oasis’ Better Man Sure... a 90's classic versus what many think should be a b-side at best. Point is still valid though.

Might be a little bit to do with having Gem and Noel produce it themselves.

Better Man is one of their most underrated tunes imo, especially the original version with the different outro, like 6 minutes 50 into this performance. So dark and menacing, like Liam's on the prowl and about to stab someone. Not sure why they changed it on the album from the demo version, I seem to remember there being a dispute with Johnny Marr over it

Pearl Jam’s Betterman >>>> Oasis’ Better Man Nothingman >>>>>>>>> Better Man. Pearl Jam-wise respesctively of course. Totally off the map, but I finally got to see them live in Prague this July. They opened with Pendulum and went straight into Nothingman, followed by the mandatory Corduroy. Live moment of the year for me.

That is probably under selling it. They live and die for their legions of fans and treat them with the uppermost respect. I wish all bands did what they do not only live but via their fan club. Hats off fellas.

Can't beat that performance of Songbird where Liam claps all the way through.

Hung in a bad place is a really good tune live. FOR TOO FUCKING LONG is all I have to say. I love this period. Liam’s peak vocals, EXIST, the setlists and the overall groovyness of the shows.
