i'm sorry, but i'm going with gretzky. unlike super mario, gretzky had an amazing eye for defense.

i disagree. even though bobby orr was a defenseman, gretzky had a better sense of defense, imo. once you consider that orr had phil esposito as the enforcer, and gerry cheevers as goalie, he was pretty well-backed up. who did the great one have in los angeles, except for luc robitaille (one of the greatest lw's of all time- offensively). grant fuhr played for a few years, but who was in goal after? kelly hrudey

if it were today i'd probably have to draft Orr or Lemieux. With the way the game is played so closely these days, there would be no way that Gretz would get the freedom on the ice that he got in his day.
If it were up to stats, Gretzky is hands down the best player.
Orr is known as the best all around player cos he could do it all - score, play defense and take hits.
But i'll have to go with Lemieux cos i was a huge fan of his when i was younger. He was the best natural scorer out of all them, and he had to do it while taking hits and everything. That's why his body didn't last - everyone ganged up on him.
btw NYR - off topic but Eric Lindross was taking a first year economics class at my university this year. Guess sather needs someone to handle the money better ;D
