"So, Sally can wait" Sally *can* wait -- she has the capability to wait -- but that doesn't give any information as to whether she actually waited or not. Therefore Sally may not have waited after all. Or maybe she did -- who knows? Plus Don't Look Back In Anger is timeless, so the event of Sally waiting or not waiting could be considered equally as being a past, present or future event. Again -- who knows*? *or who cares for that matter.......

This just reminded me that I was listening to music the other day and there was a lyric about Sally and I thought now there's 3 classic songs with Sally in them. But now I've totally forgotten which song it was It wasn't Long Tall Sally.

If you get to a bus stop too late, and the bus has already gone, you wait for the next one.

But if your soul has already left you by then, you might find it hard to think that rationally. I wish Noel could read this thread.

I wish Noel could read this thread. I'd see the soul as more of an irrational/emotional entity than a rational one, so if anything, the soul having left results in a net increase in rationality relative to irrationality. And seeing as the relative amount of irrationality/emotionality has now decreased, that makes it less likely for Sally to look back in anger.

Anyway, now that we've disected this track, someone should make a thread about the schizophrenia of Slide Away.

When I was a kid that’s what I actually thought the song was about. Like Sally was some girlfriend of Noely’s that didn’t want to wait for him and then she dumped him so then Noel wrote the song as a dig like “haha you can wait for me now because I’m big and famous but whoops ur too late and ur soul is dying but don’t look back in anger xoxo”
