As an Oasis fan, I would hate this.
But what if the media treated Oasis like Coldplay, U2, and the Arctic Monkeys - band that can do no wrong in the media’s eyes?

But Oasis get more favourable treatment than any of those bands? Genuinely they do, their re-releases of DM and MG rated incredibly highly, the Supersonic movie, both latest Gallagher albums very well received.
And as if it matters anyway, we’d all be listening to Ed Sheeran if it was all about media darlings. Can’t wait to see that guy go into obscurity.

Gonna get me one. Looks like that could be a lot of fun Btw on topic... Oasis media darlings, not having that. Would ruin the vibe of them being a bit of an exclusive club here in the states

"What if"? Noel is one of the biggest media darlings in music today imo; loves being interviewed, constant press coverage (particularly in the NME) and generally positive critical reception to anything he puts out.

A-Team, Castle on the Hill. Perfect was pretty good until it got played to fuck this past winter. Can’t stand it now. I've listened to these "songs". Impossible for me to finish. Is there the beginning of a melody somewhere in there ? But it's not even the worst. The aesthetic of the music is just beyond atrocious. And the guy can't even sing. And to think this Sheeran is from UK, it's fuckin' depressing...

Agree with the sentiments here..Oasis came along and seemed to be completely different to anyone on the scene, coupled with their absolute determination to be the best band around. The media gave them that leeway, but given both Liam and Noel's personality, there were lots of opportunities for those sections of the media to have a dig/be intrusive and giving them tiresome labels like 'bad boys of rock' - something which they covered in Supersonic: 'soon as you're in the tabloids, that's when you've gone to the dark side'. Lest we forget, the UK media in particular have a renowned habit for both building up people/groups and then tearing them down/relishing a fall from grace or their own heights, so it can be argued that given Liam and Noel's combative attitudes, some of the media would only be too happy to give negative coverage. Compared to someone like Coldplay who are generally more 'nice' - don't get caught out having had one too many, clean cut interviews, generally non-controversial, allied with their safe music i.e. in general, quite happy, positive, sunshine-y, means they get the label of media darlings who can't do no wrong.
The counterexample of Ed Sheeran is an interesting one. At times, I reckon he's ok on a couple of tunes and his invention with pedals live is quite cool to see, but I agree with the overall sentiments - he seems to be played to death everywhere (specially that Shape of You and Perfect), but not necessarily in a good way. Nowadays, you can still hear Oasis everywhere (on radio, in TV programmes) and not get tired by it; and yet, you see a big majority of people just melt when one of his tracks gets played. Does make me wonder what is his appeal to give him this status of the pinnacle artist of today? The music feels like we've kind of heard it all before - that fast singing/rapping style with a pacey acoustic with lyrics focused on love or family, so it's not necessarily something that grabs you straightaway. And yet this seems to lead to sentiments I've heard like 'Supermarket Flowers is the most heartbreaking song' or 'Perfect is the best love song' that just make you think 'really? seriously?'. Maybe I'm missing something. Biased though I am, I do feel Oasis were the last heroes of music - a band/group you could get behind in a tribalistic manner, who had the tunes and sound to back up their swagger and whose music has stood the test of time

When I read the title I did for some reason think of the scenario that one of the Gallagher's would have been performing at the royal wedding. Just imagining hearing Liam going "and after aaaalll you're my (camera zooms in on the happy couple) wonderwaaalll" (the two look at each other, smiling) makes me toy with the idea of setting up my own record burning, very much in the style of the christian Beatles fans in the 60's.

Make no mistake the press love the Gallaghers - keep them in a job. Hand them 'controversial' statements and headlines on a plate.
