I do remember buying the Stand By Me single and thinking all the b-sides: (I Got) The Fever, My Sister Lover, Going Nowhere were amongst the worst music I'd ever heard, but now My Sister Lover and Going Nowhere are amongst my favorite Oasis songs....
(I Got) The Fever is still shit....
Thanks.

Definitely one of my least favourite 90's Oasis tracks.

(I Got) The Fever is still shit.... Thanks. My Sister Lover is very average by 90s Oasis standards. It sounds unfinished, like it needed another mix but they couldn't be bothered maybe? I think the same can be said for I Got The Fever. Going Nowhere is the only b-side on Stand By Me that sounds finished to my ears, which probably explains why it ended up on The Masterplan.

I love Líam and Noël's harmonies during the chorus of Sister Lover; listen to it again on PCP. Another note about the Stand By Me single: as I stated I didn't like any of the b-sides; and also thought the cover of the Stand Me single was shit, too, with two old people on the cover; well, turns out the old people on the cover are Brian Cannon's parents, the person who designed all the album covers for the first three Oasis albums and singles, wow. Also, Gas Panic , I'd like you to be my 'and one' for the Royale wedding this weekend since crisppacket blew me off. Thanks.

Not strictly on topic but it blows my mind how the fuck Flashbax got left off The Masterplan. One of the best Oasis songs ever!!! While we're at it, I'll never understand why they used the much inferior electric version of Fade Away as opposed to the Warchild version.

I wonder what Liam's reaction was when he read the lyrics May have been slightly confusedThe verses of the song are from the original 1991/92 'Lock All The Doors' demo. Here: Noel re-worked the title and chorus, based around the band 'Sister Lover' who feature in the Supersonic doc. They're the all-girl band from the Boardwalk that got Oasis on the bill at King Tut's on that faithful night in 1993. The rest, as they say, is history, with the 'Lock All The Doors' chorus disappearing until Chasing Yesterday was released. In terms of the song history from there, it was demo'd in Mustique (May/June 1996) and pretty much done exactly the same way for the final recording (Ridge Farm studios, late 1996). It was released on the Stand By Me single in September 1997.

I love the way Liam sing this song. His vocals on this and (I Got) The Fever are brilliant. Despite all the coke, his voice during the BHN sessions (at all the studios) is outstanding.

It was recorded in May/June 1997 (BHN sessions wrapped on 31st March, with the mastered album completed by 1st May) for a film based on an Irvine Welsh book, I do believe (this would obviously be just after the success of Trainspotting). Noel speaks about it in a 1998 interview previewing 'The Masterplan's' release. However, he says he wrote the song in that time as well. That's another white lie of Noel's. The song was originally written in 1993/94, around the time Oasis had signed the record deal. That's what era the demo (released as a bonus to the BHN reissue) comes from. I wish he'd lob it in his current tour. Great song.

The interview i've seen/read was I believe Mark Coyle talking about it. Said it was one of those songs Noel wrote on a train around the time he used to head down to London for Oasis. Maybe it's just one of those, like Rockin' Chair/HTAW etc, that he had lying around for years. It certainly makes sense. Instrumentally the guitar part is beautifully simple and the lyrics are the wistful, melancholy nature of Noel stuck in Manchester wanting to get out.
