***WARNING - NEGATIVE REVIEW INCOMING***
Have you ever driven 10 hours round trip in a day to see your favorite artist and been thoroughly underwhelmed? Oh, you have? Well you must be a "fan" of Noel Gallagher because it happened to me last night. Maybe it's my dislike for the new album or Noel's obvious distaste for his fan base...either one, a combination of the two, or something else combined for a poor experience last night.
Disclaimer: I really do not like the album very much at all. I rate Black and White Sunshine, If Love Is the Law, and The Man Who Built The Moon. The rest just aren't appealing to me in the least bit.
Fort Knox: Congrats Noel and crew on being able to play your "walk out song" however it does very little to get the crowd hyped. Although it was one of the only songs from the new album that crowd knew any of the words for. Take that is contrast with last tour when Chasing Yesterday songs were getting huge reactions and massive sing-alongs.
Holy Mountain/Keep on Reaching: The crowd, hyped a bit from Fort Knox, are basically dead at the end of Keep on Reaching. It's just not a good song and along with Holy Mountain which should be counted as one of Noel's worst singles of all time, it made for a bad start to the concert.
It's a Beautiful World: Should've been the 2nd song instead of Holy Mountain. People knew the song fairly well an at least seemed to enjoy it. It's one of the more bearable songs not mentioned earlier.
In the Heat of the Moment: Crowd hits one of their highs here. I mean people were hyped, probably just so happy Noel was playing something besides the new stuff. However...
Riverman: To follow that up with Riverman, which I adore otherwise, was a mistake. It brought energy right back down. And I absolutely love Riverman, but in the context of this concert, it was poorly placed.
Ballad: My favorite NGHFB song, so of course I loved it.
If I Had a Gun/Dream On: Never have I ever though I'd want to hear it, but it's such a massive sing-a-long, I get why Noel still plays it. Really don't like either extremely much, but crowd reaction made it worth it.
Little By Little: Good Lord, the crowd blew the roof off. That song was obviously a highlight.
The Importance: Ok, so sure, crowd loves it, but remember the 100+ other songs in your back catalogue? I mean, good Lord, play something else.
Dead in the Water: I really enjoy this song, I think it was poorly placed in the setlist. Would've done with "The Right Stuff" and Dead being switched.
Be Careful/She Taught Me: Ehhhhhhhhh I mean, there goes the crowd. Be Careful What You Wish For is just so average and bleak in front of the crowd. She Taught Me How To Fly is bearable and i actually enjoyed it.
Half the World Away: I mean, I absolutely love this song. It's mega live and people know this b-side very well. However, he's played it every tour as a solo artist. Does he know he has more songs? Sad Song? Take Me Away? Anything???
Wonderwall: Spit in the face of all fans who love his music. The Ryan Adams version is shite and him playing that way is just saying "fuck you" to all of us. Sorry, my opinion.
Aka What a Life: I mean...great. So excited to hear that again..
First set done and it was a very fast, short hour and 20 minutes. Noel barely acknowledged the crowd at all, most limited interactions I've seen from him now. Crowd was kind of excited for more, but honestly, were just going through the motions.
The Right Stuff: Love the song, glad it's on the setlist, but it felt like 15 minutes.
Go Let It Out: Personal favorite that I almost blew the dude in front of me's eardrums off.
DLBIA: Quick transition into this song was awkward in my opinion. Shite crowd meant Noel sang the chorus which was disappointing personally.
All You Need is Love: Again, does Noel not have any tracks on his own to finish the gig?
Noel obviously was enjoying himself and the band was too, so I hate that I'm so critical. I don't know why I have ever thought more or expected more from this gig that I was hesitant about spending $140+ on for my wife and I since the album came out. The last two tours were great, setlists were competent and even if they were repetitive, I always thought he was building towards a third tour of deep cuts possibly and longer setlists. Nope. Short setlist, done in one hour and 45 minutes. Same bland songs, no surprises, etc. I feel semi-gyped and I don't like feeling that way. I wanted to drive to Dallas possibly, but there's no way I'm driving 10+ hours again to see that setlist. The crowd was poor the whole night, but the setlist in my opinion doesn't give them a chance to get excited. My wife, who usually laughs at my Oasis fandom, thought the new songs were bad. She couldn't believe anyone bought the album, and I think that's why the whole top-tier was basically empty. Last time in NOLA, the Civic was packed to the rafters and Noel was in great form, banterz, etc. This time, almost half-empty with fans just waiting for some inspiration and excitement.
So overall, not too happy with the gig. Did I sing my guts out and try to get others around me excited? Sure, but there were long frowns, confused faces, and a poor gig.
Someone help me get over my funk.

Sorry you didn't enjoy it. I'm kinda glad I live in the UK where you don't have to drive 10 hours for anything. Problem is he was always going to do a lot of the new stuff and if it's not a sell out the atmosphere is often a bit flat.

I thought the show was good (I like the new album so maybe that’s why) but the crowd sucked and that’s because he played a venue too big for him in that city, he should’ve played the civic again or some other place that had standing GA.

I can understand why you didnt enjoy the show especially if you don't like the new album and he's playing 8 songs off that album. I enjoyed the show in DC but I like the new album. I do agree with you on the Beatles cover. I would prefer an Oasis classic.

American crowds are mostly always awful. Crowd was great the last time he was in NOLA, and of the other artist I’ve seen whether it be a single show or a festival the crowds have been mostly great. Believe it or not the worst crowd I’ve ever experienced was at U2’s last show in New Orleans, that caught me completely off guard, some of the rudest group of 40/50 year olds I’ve ever encountered and I’ve been to one of those Van Halen reunion shows.

If you go to a gig expecting not to enjoy it, you aren't going to.
From all the videos I've seen, Noel actually seems to be very much interacting with the crowd, and the crowd seem to be reacting well to the new songs.
Obviously, the videos won't show everything and I'm not claiming to know better as I haven't yet been to a gig on this tour.

I just saw him in Atlanta and I was totally excited for the show. The OP is right on. I thought it was weird he didn’t even talk to the crowd until half of the set was finished. I honestly think the set could have been far better with some fresh songs added to the list as well. Was totally hoping for a more rocking set.

Noel seems to have a bunch of shows where he's just going through the motions. I can imagine it gets tiring traveling city to city and playing pretty much the same stuff. Especially must be hard to play in a market you don't sell well too.
I wonder if he picked the states first to tour to get the band in sync live before playing his bigger markets

I was just glad I left NOLA alive when I visited (not for the Noel show). Crazy place.

Try focusing on the stage, not the audience. You didn't pay that much money and travel that far to watch people in the crowd. Enjoy the show.

Yeah I'm just glad I got to see him again and had a great time at the show, but on the other hand I can see how going from the hype Civic show last go around (Where people were literally moshing) to the more tame crowd this year can be a bit underwhelming. I'm curious how much the new songs have to do with the vibe of the crowd, It seems to be a very divisive album so I wonder if European crowds will have similar reactions to the new songs.

We're too bizzy protesting the govermint to go out and get properly smashed. Americans gotta take off the pink puzzy hat and put on a lampshade.

I was at the New Orleans show in 2015 and this most recent one and really enjoyed both gigs. I'd probably say I enjoyed the show in 2015 a little more because I liked the setlist better and I'm not a huge fan of the new album, so that probably has some to do with it. The crowd was a little more rowdy in 2015 but may have been because it was GA. I liked that I was able to sit in the balcony though, my days of standing for hours at concerts are probably over. Yes, I know, I'm an old fart and not even quite 40, but I used up all my standing at concerts in my late teens and 20's.
Noel seemed to be enjoying himself though and gave it a good effort and the band seemed to be hitting on all cylinders. New Orleans is only a 3.5 hour drive for me so I hope he keeps playing there.
