played some in high school and is still my favorite sport to play celtics fan here...and yes, i know the antoine walker deal looks absolutely RIDICULOUS...and i know they'll still be .500 or so at the end of the year...and i know their 17th championship can't come soon enough...

as the great woody allen once said, "What is so fascinating about sitting around watching a bunch of pituitary cases stuff a ball through a hoop?"

right - i think you mean the same Woody Allen that attends every Knicks home game.
in any case, same can be said about any pro sport - there are goals on each end of the court or field and the goal is to have a higher score than your opponent at the end. OK, baseball's slightly different as it's played on a diamond, not a north-south field format. Same idea. You can boil it down to just that for any sport.

He is right!! i live down here in ARGENTINA!!! ( the ones that beat your all mighty DREAM TEAM TWICE, in olympics and in 2002 world championship!! yes that poor small country!!!) and i don't get to see much nba games, at most one per week.. and everytime i get to see a NYKnicks game i see "ALL WISE" Woody Allen sat on front row seats!!! basketball is by far the most exciting sport hey i'm a spurs fan( you may be able to guess easily why) an although i don't get to see much games i check results and visit nba.com on a daily basis.... i still don't understand antione walker's trade.. but i'm sure for certain that he needed to be out of atlanta for good!... another recent deal i can't believe is Malik Rose- Mohammed... what is wrong with the knicks'

Hey he's an Italian Argentinian, correct? Good to see a paisan on an NBA team. some of my father's friends are Argentinian but with Italian heritage and they love the Spurs too. Good stuff. The European/international brand of the sport is more exciting now anyway...if the NBA didn't already have a salary cap, it would go the same way as the NHL. Stern is smart to give in to what he knows is his fanbase, but something needs to be done. I'm all about cutting a few teams out, but god forbid the league and any player has to sacrifice merchandising money, ad revenue, and ticket sales. I'd like to see a max of 20 teams - really, 20, that's plenty. Look at the NHL pre-expansion...what did we have; the Bruins, Canadiens, Rangers, Flyers, Red Wings, and Maple Leafs? The Northest, Midwest, and Canada are the strongest markets for hockey anyway; why does California need like 4 teams?? Sorry, got off on a rant there... As for Atlanta...EVERYONE needs to get out of that organization...aren't they on pace for worst record ever? Can you blame Walker for accepting that trade with open arms??

I thought Walker had some bad things to say about Ainge after he got traded? Walker is a chucker anyway. it's painful being a raptors fan these days.

they had some bad things to say about each other, but walker's game has changed a bit; see celts @ utah and celts @ phoenix recently. i think it's a good addition and i'm sure walker wanted to be in a better situation...ah well, they weren't winning a title w/ GP, Googs, and Welsch anyway. I think w/ their rookies, having walker gets them closer to getting back to the Eastern Conf. championship round like in 02.

Haha..Waltahhhh..yeah I miss him, but even on his best day he never developed into anything more than a role player. I'm glad Ainge got rid of Googs and even Gary Payton..he hadn't been playing with much intensity lately and, hey, w/ Walker, at least they have a shot at the 3 seed, home court for a round, and the chance to make a splash.
Watch out for the celts...they just became the first Eastern conference team to beat Phoenix at home this year!

boston may be in third right now, but they are still a near .500 team at the moment. Let's see how they do in their remaining games.
If anyone has a chance in the east, it's Detroit or Miami.
I think if toronto can make it to .500 then we have a slight chance of making the playoffs and upsetting someone.

a .500 team in the east with the new six-division setup can almost lock in a three seed, at least in the pathetic Atlantic division. A few games over .500 will lock in that third seed...i'm willing to bet that a team around .500 makes it out of the east, and upsets detroit or miami. that's not very unlikely when you look at the east.

i think miami will do better than detroit in playoffs... hey what do you guys think of the bulls'??

bulls are coming of age now. Give them a few more years to mature and they will be a great team in the east. How bout Vince carrying the nets to a playoff run? I wish we didn't trade him

hmm, Carter needed to be traded, he was a cancer before he was traded. Yes, he did a lot for the Toronto community, but as a professional, you can't publictly announce to the world that I've been playing half-assed for the past season or so... how wourld Jalen Rose or Chris Bosh feel? Sorry if I feel too strongly about him, but I live in TO, there are a lot of angry people here who want to lash out at him and the Raptors organization. (note: please watch the upcoming Raptors-Nets game in ACC) At the time, the trade to New Jersey sounded OK - send him to one of worst team in the NBA, but the talent we got back was weird. Zo never considered the Raps. Draft picks are not lotterys. VC had the potential to get back to his 1999-2000 self, and that was one point that would've net us something valuable.

I personally wouldn't boo vince if i was going to the Nets-Raptors game in April. Sure i feel a little let down by him, but still the things that he did for the franchise, and the city are too much to ignore. He pretty much put us on the map. He may not have been playing his best earlier this season, but i think the complacent toronto sports media made too much of nothing. He wasn't getting too many touches under Sam Mitchell, and his minutes were very low considering he was the star player. Everyone seems to forget that he's playing way more minutes in New Jersey, and pretty much every play goes through him. He's just taking a lot more shots now, but his percentage is the same. But i do hate Babcock more than vince. He got shit in return for vince - 3 scrubs and a couple of late-round draft picks.

I agree with you... sometimes the media do tend to take things too seriously, but it is not comparable to New York City's media scrutiny. I wouldn't boo Carter because he's a good player and I appreciate what he's done to the the city and put TO up on the NBA map. However, you have to take his last few season's number and playing style into consideration, he was setting for jump shots every time the Raps are on the offensive, he was the GUY and he didn't bother taking it to the hoop. Meanwhile, that changed in New Jersey, but not by much. That point right there gives people enough reasons to have something negative against him. Well, it's just my take. (It won't be long before he's injured again.)

Celtics are on a roll at the right time - they have 4 games left of a 6 game home stand, and Payton's back in the lineup. Pierce, Walker, Payton, some great rookies (Delonte West??? Unreal! The kid's a pure shooter and most of these rookies play great defense).
Walker is finally POSTING UP. There was one play I saw last night against the bobcats where he was out by the 3 point line BEGGING for the ball. No one would give it to him; i could hear him on TV yelling at guys to cough it up. Instead, Gary Payton waited for, I think, Blount on the inside to open up, threw a pass right at him, and Blount dunked it in. That's what Walker needs when he's looking for three when the Celtics don't need it. After that, he posted up much of the rest of the game and got the ball in situations where it was deserved. I'm kind of glad O'Brien isn't coaching anymore because Doc Rivers won't take any of that crap; O'Brien let them all throw up bricks whenever they wanted to.
I think they can go deep in the East with this team, and then after the rookies develop, put together something special in the following years.

I play fantasy basketball... so Celtic's standings in real life is not of concern to me. Walker posting up will bump up his shooting percentage by a lot, while his three's will suffer. Since Payton's back, Walker'll not have the ball in his hand a lot times, his assists wil go down, while his turnovers will decrease too. Overall, a great trade by Celtics, and Rivers' a good coach for them and their playing style. I'm glad for the Truth, Paul Pierce, he's not the centre of the focus anymore, he can go back being a triple double threat every night they play! Who else here play fantasy?

his three point percentage won't suffer, just the amount of attempts/makes total. never got into fantasy; there's so much more to sports when you can follow and love one team than be concerned/impressed with an individual's statistics...can't help it up here in boston; the pats and sox are teams that have had success winning as a team with great role players/rookies coming up huge when it counts! no statistic or fantasy league can track that stuff.

It used to be fun watching the Celtics of a few years ago, when they used to take a three almost everytime downt the court. It was really fun to watch and kind of like how the Suns are playing this season.
And what's wrong with the yahoo fantasy game? I play every season (baseball, hockey and basketball) with a whole bunch of friends and it's ok. You should play head-to-head leagues because they are a lot more fun.
