If the release of Sunday Morning Call saw it go number 1, along with the critics loving the song as well as the fans, does anyone else think it would have seen Oasis take a break at that point and Noel go solo? Something I have always wondered because that single has always felt like an odd Oasis release to me. The only Oasis single (till Falling Down) to not feature any Liam vocals on the entire release.
I wouldn't have been at all surprised if that was the plan altogether by Noel, release the song, get a hit then go solo for an album then come back with Oasis (which does mean that Heathen Chemistry could almost have been his solo album)

Interesting theory.
SMC does indeed feel like a very odd release. I wonder what Liam's thoughts were at the time?
Heathen Chemistry as Noels first solo album is also an interesting idea. I guess he didn't really have the songs for a whole album and that's why LAG started to contribute.

Heathen Chemistry as Noel's first solo album, when you consider the songs he did have that wasn't on there (Idler's Dream, Just Getting Older, Shout It Out Loud) would have been such a melodic album from him. I think it is worth thinking about really

The problem is SMC is just an ok song. Its nothing special, its too long and sounds too samey after about 3 minutes. It wasn't a DLBIA type moment. Oasis just needed a long and very extended break after their SOTSOG tour. In less than 7 months they were back on the road again in America touring and opening for.....The Black Crowes. That was weird.
Noel's model for releasing a solo album was the Graham Coxon template. You can still release a side album and be in a band. You don't need to make it a huge gigantic album push and tour the world. You can just put out music you are passionate about and want to stay creative while doing it without all the pressures of it being an Oasis album, sales, or expectations. I really wanted a Noel album in the fall of 2002, spring of 2003. Simple, acoustic, direct. Wanted Nigel Godrich to lead that project.

As Noel himself said at the time SOTSOG wasn't an album that had a lot of instantly recognisable singles on it. What else should it have been, honestly?
I think it was the most logical step to bring out the last single from the LP as the Noel lead tune. It had been a while since Don't Look Back In Anger, and SMC had got a lot of praise from folks. When Gem and Noel went on Radio 1 in the January Steve Lamacq said it was his favourite song from the album, pretty sure Noel agreed, I'd have to have a re-listen.
There was no chance it was going to get to Number 1 though. Fot my part it was the first Oasis single that I didn't get on its first day of release since Whatever. I did try but my local Woolies didn't have it in. I was appalled!
Interesting theory about the what if but I don't think it was ever a plan it for it to pave a way for Noel's solo album. I just reckon it was just the most logical last single.

It wasn't really a singlesey album, I reckon they were just scrambling around for a third single and Noel probably thought it was less hassle to get Liam to sing any b-sides except LAMB. Gas Panic is a far better song but would probably need an edit for the radio and sound shit. The demo version of Where Did It All Go Wrong would have been a great single.

No. I can’t see Oasis taking any breaks between 1994 and 2009 for any reason.
By the by, I actually really like SMC. It’s true downfall was being directly after WDIAGW on SOTSOG. Very stupid placement.

It doesn't go anywhere. Its average. I would say it's so boring that it ends up not even being average. And that's because an average Oasis song gives me far much more enjoyment than Sunday Morning Call ever have. I would probably say that is the case with many of the worst songs too, even if they're... like I said, worse. But I guess that at the end of the day, I would rather be offended than sedated.

Idler's Dream 10. The Cage Record Machine was already written by this point, right? Not just yet. Here's the list so far as I have it: Unused from the SOTSOG era: - Idler’s Dream - Just Getting Older - Let There Be Love - Force Of Nature - Little By Little - Teotihuacan - Revolution Song - For One So Young HC era: - The Hindu Times - Stop Crying Your Heart Out - (Probably) All In The Mind - She Is Love - The Cage - Shout It Out Loud - (You've Got) The Heart of a Star - (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady - Stop The Clocks - The Good Rebel - Sing (If The Song’s Worth Singing) [Turned into Lyla]- Revival [Unfinished - Possibly turned into The Hindu Times]- Songbird - Born On A Different Cloud - Better Man - Hung In A Bad Place - The Roller - A Quick Peep - Thank You For The Good Times - Instrumental #1 (Beetlejuice) Possible other songs: - Don’t Be Down [1st Mention: 04/10/02]- The Magic Can’t Be Right [1st Mention: 04/10/02]
I can find enough worthy tracks to make an album but Noel sings on 6 of them. :/ It'd be twee for an Oasis album.

We desperately need to track down private collectors and purchase the demoes from SOTSOG that include "For One So Young". Thats our next big agenda to tackle. Surely the forum would again come up huge and contribute to such a unique song. @ monkey joakim mexico2418

I would of thought wdiagw would have got more radio play, higher chart position and better reviews. If SMC was never on sotsog but only released as a b-side or remained unreleased would it of got a lot more love. But what value for money it was ( if my memory is correct £2 to £3 a single). Sotsog 3 singles 4 if u include the jap one work as great playing start to finish great flow great songs. Does anyone rember the singles having see through plastic for half the cd, I'd never seen that before.

He was asked about potential singles off SOTSOG, he said GLIO and WFL for sure and that Roll It Over would be the 4th single. Does anyone else recall this interview???
