In the Champions League semi 3 or 4 years ago, a team full of young talent, and look at you know, mediocre 1st Division team. What happened? Did you just spend money you didnt have or what? Serious mis-managment I think!

But yeah Leeds fall from the top has been pretty amazing. It was just serious mis-management at the top. So many football clubs are badly run. I support Sunderland - enough said. What happened with O'Leary? was he sacked or did he quit? i cant remember now.

LEEDS ARE ARE FEEDER CLUB Smith Ferdinand Cantona McQueen On a serious note tho, I hate to see a big club do badly, not doing so well in div 1 now it's not looking good for them. Been to Elland Road twice and saw two leeds wins, knees were squashed coz the seats are so close together

Ill ignore the feeder club comment, as a certain Gordon Strachan (a former scummer) won us the title in 92, cementing himself as a leeds legend. The fall from grace as it were has come about from a number of factors, the club was badly run - cf peter risdale and successors The team was far far far too over paid (cf my last point) leading to complacency and arrogance (eg kewell, viduka) The Bowyer/woodgate trial did little to boost morale/team spirit, although it has to be said that bowyers best ever carreer form was whilst he was dashing from court rooms to the dressing rooms, a form he has never recaptured either at west ham or geordie land OLEARY - if u ever have a few hours to spare to see a crucial trigger of this leeds united story, read his book. Dont buy it like, get it from a library or something. Then burn it. Bastard. He was an exceptionally promising manager, still is, just a daft fucker who was given far too much money at such a young age hmm lets see what else..... people to blame and why Risdale - overall mismanagement of club, king kong wrecking ball Oleary - Book, player management (cf woodgate, bowyer etc) Players Kewell - went for a pittance when we should have sold him for more, his agent got more money for him than we did Venables and Reid - cant blame them too much, they did little but could have been expected to do a lot more than they did. I could go on forever and ever, and it seems whatever i have to say will fall on deaf ears to those who have power to do anything about it, being htis post on an oasis forum ,still you lot wanted to know what went wrong......

complacency and arrogance (eg viduka) Viduka is a waste of space. Kissed the badge of every club he's played for.

oh dont get me started on kissing badges...........it was me who started the thread on here a while ago entitled alan smith is a dirty scum bastard. which i still stand by however it was nice to see that jermaine pennant seemed proud to put on the leeds shirt last year. he scored in our last permiership game and looked like he was really up for it. aparently he wanted to extend his loan but a combination of leeds wage budget and arsenal wanting him back couldnt let it happen
but still yer, alan smith is a dirty scum bastard

I dont understand why you dislike O'Leary so much? you say he's an exceptionally promising manager but was given too much money - well thats hardly his fault! He's doing great at Villa now Surely losing him was key to the decline of Leeds The financial mismangement was out of his hands though - i remember hearing the story of how gobsmacked O'Leary was when he found out the wages of Danny Mills... Viduka and Kewell are quality players - say what you like about them. Or do you prefer Brian Deane? Viduka's goals almost single handedly kept you up the season before last. As for the badge kissing - maybe it can be taken in bad taste and not the way things should be. But come on, these guys are professional footballers. They have employers, they have their own personal lives, families to support - would you put a football club above your family or your own well-being?

daysleeper, ill take each of your points one at a time I dont so much dislike oleary as a manager , but for simply how he brought about his own dismissal, which lead to the dispansion of the team/club etc. it was the book he wrote about his current players highlighting perosnal issues and what he thought were their weaknesses to the general public at £17.99 a pop in his own pocket. This not surprisingly divided the dressing room with players such as kewell on one side claiming never to want to play for DOL again and players such as Smith and Batty standing by the manager, which left the board no option but to sack DOL. Kewell and viduka are both quality players, the 200/2001 season (i think) the one before we were in the champions league, ive seen little to nothing like harry kewell of that year, he was quick, skillful and could hit a ball, he was class. unfortunately, as many liverpool fans are now finding, when things dont go exactly his own way, he turns to handsonhips.com and does precious little for the team, let alone his own reputation, it is infact only the goal he scored at highbury to lose arsenal the title the endof the season before last that got him his transfer to liverpool. Viduka is another fantastic player, and i believe we saw his best years at leeds, with his back to goal, i know very few players better than him in the world. He became similar to kewell, another lazy bastard looking out for himself when we needed him, cf 2 red cards in succession at the end of last season, not turning up to training, suspicious rifts with the manager which kept him out of the team, coincidentally keeping him off the treatment table. he did precious little for leeds in his last season here. finally, alan smith badge kissing. i believe families and whatever have precious little to do with this issue. If you love a club you kiss the badge. Smith did this countless times and it was believable. At elland road after our last premiership game the pitch was invaded and alan smith was held aloft by leeds united fans in emotional scenes i believe i will never see again as a football fan, 40,000 people chanting his name and holding him as their idol as a home town boy, claiming that he never wanted anything more than to play for leeds united. We understood he is of england caliber and needed to be at a bigger club, and yet days after declaring his love for leeds he signs for manchester united and shows all the adulent scenes and badge kissing to be a sham. This was summed up in my last post be, put in much simpler terms, that alan smith is a dirty scum bastard. id love to hear from you if you want to follow up any of these issues again

also, ona somewhat lighter note, i too held your jovial thoughts of brian deane as he made his return to elland road, but since then ive seen him to be firstly one of the most proffesional-like footballers ive seen playing for leeds in a while and secondly, he's been banging in the goals too, cant complain since we got him for nothing. David healys come good too, i truly hope we dont have to sell him this month as it seems norwich want him among others

No noe's had it as bad - you must be joking, leads spend all their money on players and wages then wonder why they have none. BRIGHTON asset stripped by an absolute C**T of a chairman ( Bill Archer we will never forget) - on the verge of extinction - moved to gillingham!- without a stadium - no real source of income - huge problems with govt acceptance of plans for new stadium- multiple pleas for donations - losing top players and managers due to lack of stadium, facilities or any real prospect. WREXHAM - in the process of being asset stripped by an absolute wanker, about to be relegated - left with no ground WIMBLEDON - lost their fucking club!!!!!! Doncaster Rovers- verging on extinction WWW.CLUBSINCRISIS.COMWE WANT FALMER!!!!

I think the Smith to Man United thing was symbolic of todays modern footballer.

as a birmingham fan, what are yoru thoughts on every1s best friend robbie savage? Blimey, where do you start! I think it was a sad end to somebody who was worshipped at the club. I think he has mainly moved for money and their is nothing wrong with that as most people in many walks of life would but instead of coming out and saying it he gave bull shit reason for wanting a move suchas moving neaer to his 'ill family' which proved to be incorrect and haven't been ill. I am soooo angry with what he did and he upset our season and i truly hope Blackburn get relegated and i will give the long haired fool dogs abuse when he returns in a couple of months but i won't forget what he did for the club and he is a much much better player than most people give him credit for and he is so influential it's shocking. But like i say it was a sad end to 2 and a half brillaint years at the club and he will NEVER and i mean NEVER get anywhere near the adulation he got at Birmingham, at his new club, they have their heroes already, people like Alan Shearer, Mike Newell, Tim Sherwood etc who helped them win the league in the mid-90's so if he wants to give it all up for a few grand a week more even when he was on around 30k a week at blues then fine.
