Sorry long and rambling post about tonight. Forgive any incoherence, but I'm still in the state of festival weekend...
So just getting home after the third day of lollapalooza. It was the 8th version so far in Chile and was my fifth time going. I have skipped a few where there weren't bands that I liked that much or one band or two bands I liked. I normally draw the line at there being at least 3 bands I enjoy within the top 9 artists on the list. This year I was in serious doubt about going, but LCD Soundsystem were a big reason to go, and David Byrne was also interesting (though not knowing his solo material). In the end we (with my wife) opted to buy tickets on the simple premise of "we cannot not go and see Liam, it's basically sacrilege". The only time I have missed a Gallagher show in the city I was living in, was Noel in Santiago in 2011 cause I was out of the country on work (and it's still a sensitive subject especially given that it was on the night that city won their first PL...) So no chance of missing Liam.
Really enjoyed LCD, actually one of the best shows that I have seen in a long time. Really danced myself clean there!! David Byrne was amazing. Mac de Marco hilarious and good. Saw some other interesting bands (royal blood, the national and some local bands on the bill), And the headliners.
But the big moment was Liam, the real reason to be there and having taken the Monday off from work to recover. And it was diabolical. I still feel disappointed that it was so short, especially since I was going pretty wild with RNRS and MG and not particularly bothered that Liams voice was a bit shite.
In all honesty I had my doubts about his voice after Germany and two shows in Argentina, plus the fact he played yesterday (have my doubts about Liam being able to handle two nights in a row in any circumstance). He was making signs from the first song about his throat and the sound. From then I knew we were on the precipice. Stopped signing a few lines during greedy soul, knew shit was bad. And when he walked off during wall of glass, knew that was the end. People where shocked. We all started talking. I was a bit gobsmacked since I'd had a a couple of drinks and jays waiting for this epic moment but would say I was not surprised with what happened. It's a bit typical Liam.
It's a shit situation and a bit unprofessional to go out and give it a go, especially when half an hour later you put out a statement saying you're suffering from like 3 types of infections and illnesses... People were gutted. Lots had traveled a long way and paid these ridiculous lollapalooza fees to see Liam. Personally I understand, given that I have been an oasis fan since 95 and know that this shit is a regular feature along the years, plus I knew Liam had been ill for a few weeks. But to the casual fan who knows some of the songs off his solo album and like oasis and the people who are big fans that made a big effort to be there, it felt like getting cocked slapped in the face. I talked to a few people, while having drinks to get over the shit mood, and in the end I felt like I kept giving excuses to them for Liams behaviour. They were proper pissed. And that at the end of the day is bad for Liam. He can promise another gig, but we are literally at the end of the world end. He won't be here again for a while. It would of been more professional for just suspend the gig and not give people false hope.
So yeah heavily disappointed by Liam tonight. If you walk on stage soldier on a bit, especially with such a short set. It was originally an 1h15m set that got shortened to 1 hour after heavy schedule changes due to delay in equipment arrival from Argentina...
But I'll be able to say I was one of those people that got to witness Liam do a Liam and fuck off cause of his voice or whatever else... just a shame to not have Noel around to cover for him and save the gig...

Really sad to see this happen but watching the gig yesterday I kind of knew it was only a matter of time. Go home, take it easy, come back when you can, live forever. Again really sad to see him in this state.

I’ll be honest, it’s hard to take him seriously when he does his all the time, dating right back to 1996. That being said, he looks well disappointed making that announcement and I do believe him in this case. But would he have walked off at The Etihad? Just saying...

I’ll tell you what, I’ve heard him sing a lot worse in 2006. This isn’t that bad.

The crowd is chanting "Noel" now... I guess people don’t have concern for the way he feels!

At least he tried, it is clear as day he is sick and even you admitted that. He clearly wants to push on and put on a gig despite his illness. People were not getting there moneys worth either way, whether he did what he did or if he just didn't perform. So it is better to try because if he didn't do it everyone would have said 'Oh no Liam is hungover again' just like in Cologne. Not sure what else he could have done in this scenario except maybe have organised like a four song gig or something and said it was just that beforehand but even then people would have complained.

Liam's management should pull him off tour for awhile to get him back to snuff; he sounds halfway to pneumonia already. This is only hurting his reputation and grinding down whatever health he has left.

I don't think its the amount of gigs/scheduling which is the problem, it's that he's ill. Looking at him he looks rough as hell. He's not done that many this calendar year, the good news is there's a big break coming up.

He didn't. He's Liam Gallagher and his voice is knackered. Hate to break it to you. None of which means he didn't have a drink last night. Fact. True. But I highly doubt he cancelled because he had a drink last night.

None of it is going to help him get over an illness, and if his voice is feeling it because of said infection, then a hectic schedule isn't going to help.

This is getting ridiculous and annoying. He’s playing too many gigs, if we get this his management sure as fuck get it too, so why do they keep booking so many festivals and concerts close to each others? I understand that being on a tour is expensive but cancelling gigs is worse, he already has a bad reputation and this stuff doesn’t help him. At the end Liam is the only one who got all the blame, even when he doesn’t deserve it. In fairness, it's not as though they booked these festivals a few weeks ago. They were announced before/just after Christmas. Dates have to be booked months in advance. But they have to learn their lessons for later in the tour. It might well be worth him pulling from one or two of the summer shows now. Yes it will be disappointing, but it's better than cancelling last minute.

Sometimes Oasis fans seem a bit dramatic about these things. Pete Doherty had to postpone his Scandinavian tour recently because of a chest infection, and I didn't see fans getting mad about it, even when he's not the most reliable guy either.

I think it's just because it looked like Liam had turned over a new leaf, and in terms of the drugs and boozing I think he has done, in general. But his management and he himself has to learn how to help, and that is by spreading the touring out a bit and not pushing it too far. At the time, I think these were actually good decisions, and this South America tour is very spaced out on the whole. But the previous months of touring, travelling, and then this chest infection, has meant that his voice just can't hack being at 100 percent three times in the space of five days.

It might well be worth him pulling from one or two of the summer shows now. Yes it will be disappointing, but it's better than cancelling last minute. This is a good point. Of course people will be a bit disappointed if a gig gets cancelled, but it's much worse when it happens just before or shortly after the gig begins. It's kinda similar to situation with the top division of football here in Norway, where we've had a lot of matches cancelled because of the winter weather at the start of the season now. People here are especially pissed off because the games get postponed less than an hour before the game starts. So it's a little bit similar. Some fans may spend thousands on tickets and travelling to big events like this, and it would be a lot better to make the decision to postpone/cancel in good time before it's supposed to take place. That is, if you have necessary information to say that there's a high chance that you might have to cancel.

This is only hurting his reputation and grinding down whatever health he has left. I agree. Even though it's a week or something to the next gig, they should have a long-term plan to make sure Liam is healthy and well enough to perform. He might be better in a week, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Better to cancel three upcoming gigs in one go, rather than cancelling them individually and shortly before they're supposed to take place.

This is nothing to do with scheduling the man is clearly not well and was really struggling. What makes me laugh is when people say typical liam..how many gigs over a 25 year as he cancelled ??seriously??theres a lot worse out there than liam .Hes unwell if his voice was going it would be shot now and it’s not you can hear it’s not,you could see the problem was breathing and his chest

The scheduling is important in that he's taking a beating up there--if he has a chest, ear, and sinus infection, then trying to keep powering through it on willpower alone is only going to keep shredding his voice. The fans shouldn't have to come so far just for four songs, but at least he did apologize instead of just storming out without a word (probably embarrassed). If he is this ill, then the tour should be postponed until he can get back on his feet again; otherwise, people are disappointed and Liam just gets sicker.

Someone posted that on Reddit, seems like Liam and Debbie has a little discussion before Liam came back on stage to apologise. Wonder if she asked him to do it...
