From his mailing list: We are delighted to announce the release of Erland's second solo album, Sule Skerry. It will be released worldwide on 17th May via Phases.
Sule Skerry is the second in a triptych of albums shaped by the natural world surrounding Erland's childhood home of the Orkney Islands. Following the critically acclaimed Solan Goose's homage to Orcadian birdlife, Sule Skerry presents a rich sonic portrait of the North Sea.
The album will be available on recycled 12" vinyl, CD, and via digital download. You can pre-order it here.
HAAR Mary Anne Hobbs gave the first single from Sule Skerry its exclusive premiere yesterday on her BBC Radio 6 Music show. Many thanks to MAH! You can listen back here to hear Erland introduce the track via tape machine (from about 1h17m in). www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0002myp#playt=01h16m55s
The track – 'Haar' – is named after the Orkney dialect word for a thick sea mist which can form for miles and consume an entire harbour of fishing boats.
Watch the beautiful new video for 'Haar', shot in Orkney by Alex Kozobolis.
'Haar' is streaming now. erlandcooper.lnk.to/Haar
What a beautiful, beautiful tune, matt!

What a beautiful, beautiful tune, matt! Oh yes!!! Can’t wait! Interestingly, was recently watching an old 1960s documentary on lighthouse keepers on Sule Skerry (a tiny tiny island) - you can see the beam of the light pulsing off the west coast of Orkney on a rough night. Very beautiful.

Thanks to Mary Anne Hobbs (BBC Radio 6 Music) for premiering the second single 'First of the Tide' from Erland's upcoming album Sule Skerry.
You can listen back here to hear Erland introduce the track via tape machine (from about 1h18m in). www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0003b7v
The single is a collaboration with electronic musician and producer Benge (John Foxx, Gazelle Twin, John Grant) and features his Moog Polymoog synthesiser re-amped through a 5,000-year-old Neolithic cairn in Orkney. The track also sees an echoed vocal performance (made up of tape loops of voice and piano) by Erland himself.
The video for ‘First of the Tide’ was directed by long-time collaborator and visual artist Alex Kozobolis. It was filmed in and around Stromness from dawn till dusk, capturing an ever-changing light, local characters and the rich colours of the harbour - with pink and blue from sea and sky dominating.
Watch the beautiful new video for 'First of the Tide' now.
'First of the Tide' is streaming now.An another beautiful work by talented Erland, matt.

Erland Cooper - Cattie-Face (at Walthamstow Assembly Hall) www.erlandcooper.com/filmI’m trying to get tickets for this or his show at the Barbican. Saw him last year and he was great - didn’t think such textured and atmospheric work would work outside the studio but he did along with the other musicians there.

I really would love to witness his solo work, matt! I've only seen Erland and The Carnival twice, but haven't got a chance to see The Magnetic North nor Erland solo. His work is very unique. You don't find a multi composer/musician like him often.

Listened to Sule Skerry for the first time today. What beautiful pieces of music. I love this album more than his first solo album as the first one was darker and a bit complicated to me. and I love the fact that Kathryn Joseph joined with Erland for "Flattie". Erland joined Mary Anne Hobbs on BBC 6 Music last week and played a couple of songs from his new album. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00050dh

I love it mimmihopps. I bought it on vinyl at his gig in London last week, and I spoke to him once again and recognised me from last year! Brief chat discussing all things home - in fact, planning to take the show up far north next year when his third album to complete the trilogy is released. I honestly think Sillocks from this album might be my favourite thing of his ever.

I believe his third album will be even better than this one. Say hello to him from me, a long term fan since Erland and The Carnival, when you see him next time again. He is one of the Scotland's best.
