Got bored after a few listens. Only 4-5 songs excite me while the rest is completely generic, bland and forgettable. Fair play to people who enjoy it but I much prefer "sophisticated" music.

Alright Now is one of the best tunes. I love that shuffling rhythm, Liam’s performance and the way it fades with the swirling synths.

I used to like shockwave, but now that the albums out it just feels small and weak. Weird 'cos it's been the complete opposite for me; I like it more than I did when it came out. Not really quite sure why. If it was a track that didn't open the album then it could be more enjoyable in the context of the record (see The River) but yeah, I've been really enjoying Shockwave.

The verses from This Is The Place and the chorus of Why Me Why Not would be an epic combination

Now back to the topic:
The title song is just like "Bold" from his first album for me. Really loving both songs. These songs are absolutely one of Liam's best solo materials.

Your avatar says you like mainstream pop that tells you it's sophisticated. Snail Mail ain't really mainstream pop. It's closer to indie rock than that. But in that genre (and similar), the likes of Courtney Barnett, Angel Olsen and Julien Baker are superior by some margin, imo, specially the latter. Have seen the previous three in a live setting as well, and they all rock. My mates were hyping her so much, and then i heard the record and was like "This is it?". I mean, she has talent, but nothing ground-breaking at all in that genre. And her music certainly ain't sophisticated, at times it's pretty much indie rock by the numbers and nothing more. People are free to prefer whatever they want at the end of the day, and the diversity of opinions is what makes discussions but sophisticated music is not necessarily quality music.

I'm actually a big fan of hers, though as you say, there's nothing really groundbreaking to her sound. She's just an excellent performer in a well-trod genre. I regret that my post sounds like an attack on her, it was just meant as a dig at the kind of passive-aggressive reviews that seem to want to comment more on the audience than on the material.

One thing I hate about the way music is “fed” to me these days is that you get to hear like 3 songs before the release. Then once you get the album those songs somehow feel different and i stop listening to them when I play the album. This exactly, I love Once, One of Us and The River ......and Shockwave But when I'm playing the album its all the other songs I'm going for (even though Once maybe the best or at least top 3)

I regret that my post sounds like an attack on her, it was just meant as a dig at the kind of passive-aggressive reviews that seem to want to comment more on the audience than on the material. I understood that, hence my last paragraph. Music is such a big world, and what is sophisticated to one person, might not even be that for another due to the amount of stuff the former has listened to. And everyone listens to what they want, and they don't need to be labelled as sophisticated or unsophisticated, that's rubbish. It's like we are talking about preferring Justin Bieber. And then there's also the genres. No matter how complex a song can be, if a listener does not like the genre, then chances are he's not gonna like the song. We are all music fans, and our music culture shapes our opinions. But i don't think we should let that gets us in a superiority like mentality. In essence, i agree with your point, but thought you didn't know her, hence why i dived into it.

I've got another confession to make, I'm your fool...
No, not that, I really have to confess something.
I wasn't mentally well all this month, my girlfriend was out of town, summer is over, people were owing me money and I needed money for rent, bills... Our national basketball team didn't win World Cup :-)
I was depressed, I wasn't even able to listen and enjoy music properly, it was easy to hate everything and everyone.
So, I gave 6/10 to Liam's new album and I didn't even listen to it properly.
Things turned around in last few days, I feel great, I got my money and girl back, I had a great day, I came home and listened to some Beatles, I was really enjoying life and music again.
So, I decided to give a chance to my man Liam again. I was happy and relaxed, I said to myself, stop being a miserable prick, give another chance to the man that you love so much.
I finally really listened to whole album, like really listening, with open heart and everything.
And you know what? I changed my mind.
It is worse than I remembered.
5/10

I'm just saying this album is solid good period Hey man, I don't quite think that's the case. Some people were a little disappointed with the album, myself included. I guess this forum is sometimes used to vent frustration. We can be critical it's nothing personal against the Gallaghers. There are mixed reviews on the album, both on here and in the media.

Yeah people have different opinions like everyone seems to have different favorite song on the album. Its all just opinions and thats perfectly ok.
