Fucking hell, if next up is a Dave Sardy produced Noel album then just imagine this place going into meltdown.
Pray to god it isn't.

Get Dave Sardines in the bin, Noel. You’re better than that.

I need Noel to stop using bells. He’s been overusing them lately and for the most part they’re distractingly saccharine and kitschy. I maintain that every artist is allowed one use of bells in their entire career. After that, I don't care if you're the love child of Lennon and Bowie, you don't have the chops to pull it off successfully again. Noel is no exception. I think this calls for a poll where we decide which song Noel is allowed to keep the bells for. We need a comprehensive list first. Here's my start of one. What are we missing?
In the Heat of the Moment If Love is the Law Wandering Star
Open the Door, See What You Find Council Skies

Anyone have a way to hear the Pretty Boy acoustic version from the 7”? Anxiously awaiting it but my delivery hasn’t come yet…

I just can't seem to get into There She Blows! and Love Is a Rich Man. The former is a total rip-off of Homefront Cameo by Cotton Mather and the latter is a pastiche that doesn't quite work, it feels like three different songs put together. Thankfully though none of them is as bad as The Girl With the X-Ray Eyes... that one was a real dirge. Not a fan of of those songs either, everything else I really dig though - even Easy Now has wormed its way into being an unashamed heartfelt Noel song for me (I've fallen in love with that falsetto bit leading to the guitar chorus, a real epic production effort instead of the plodding dross he went with would have helped take the song and that moment to a level of ecstasy). But There She Blows is the dadrock I hate hearing from Noel - just that tired, lumpen flat as a pancake plodding chorus he can't help himself with at times. It's lazy and uninspired. Love Is A Rich Man is admirable in opting for a Motown vibe but feels like a far inferior cousin of If Love Is The Law (a song that really benefited from its kitchen sink production by David Holmes). Maybe unfair to compare it to a song I love, so it's merely passable at best, and at least doesn't commit the crimes of There She Blows. But moreso, I think they kill the vibe of the album. Up until then, it's a very sweet, charming and melancholic album, at times brooding, before he slaps on some ill fitting leather trousers and you think 'uh oh' but thankfully he redeems himself with Think Of A Number. I've said it countless times but he's a pop songwriter and that's where he excels, not lumpen rock. I'd have held back Sail On and A Dream Is All I Need To Get By to replace those two tail end tunes - I think they're consistent with the charm and melodic nature of this record and more in keeping with it. In fact, I'm going to create that playlist now! Sail On and A Dream is All I Need to Get By would have been perfect for this album. Shame...

I shouldn't have reviewed the album until I'd had the chance to properly listen to it in my car at full volume. Turns out, Open The Door is kickass for singing at the top of your lungs. Bloody love that song now more than I thought I would.

Anyone else still totally obsessed with Think of a Number?
Also, Noel - love you chief, genius and all. But saying it should have been the opener? Not a chance. It's the "Looking over your shoulder one last time at the past, a sad smile on your face, reluctantly moving onto a new day that may be kinder" song. Perfect closer.

‘Council Skies’ (song) should’ve been the opening track.

So how are the charts shaping up? Lucky 13th? It'll be a shame if his streak gets broken and especially on such a good album.

Don’t go off the downloads , Noel and Liam still shift a lot of physical albums . I’d expect that’s where he’ll grab the number 1 spot

Didn't understand why he bashes all his own albums. He said that he hates Morning Glory's sound. But he's okay with Don't Believe The Truth. Has he listened to Eyeball Tickler?

Yeh it being the opener doesn't work for me at all either, though I guess there's always a bias from having heard it as the closer it's impossible to imagine it anywhere else. In any case, I always think the closer should be an epic track, Noel dug himself into that hole with Champagne Supernova, and to be fair has tended to deliver. I also can't see INGUT as the closer at all. I suppose thematically and where he is personally he perhaps feels TOAN reflects where he was some time ago, and INGUT is more where his head is at now so it makes more sense to show the progression the other way round. But I don't think it works musically.

Oh, interesting—it’s the studio vocals! Like the 3 acoustic tracks from Back the Way We Came. I was expecting a demo, more or less. Very cool.

According to The S*n the Foos are #1 and he's #2 with 3 (yes, THREE) copies between them I assume they were both heavily frontloaded with pre-orders so no idea who's gonna get it on friday
