She taught me how to fly = Run by New Order. Definately has that Technique era sound to it. Which reminds me that John Denver has a writing credit on that tune after suing NO. just had quick blast of that song on YouTube for old times sake and you should have a look at those comments if you ever doubt the rest of the Internet is worse than the shit you see on here. People actually saying John Denver deserved to die because he sued New Order. Fruitcakes. That John Denvers full of shit man

People reach a special level of loutish on that site. I'm used to knee-jerk, ignorant rants on the internet, but there's nothing that quite matches the lack of self-awareness, education, and basic human decency that happens on YouTube comment threads.

Into the third week, and this album just keeps getting better for me.
Easily his best solo album. Fucking brilliant, Noel.

Sunday I listened things from his three solo efforts. The songs in the first one are still good but man, they sound beige compared with the third!!

It's a good album. It's Noel doing well what he has always done well - good wee pop songs with great melodies. It's not the ground-breaking album that some folk are making it out to be and ultimately isn't really that different to his previous work for me. The interludes are pointless, put another couple of songs on there instead Noel you miserable wanker!

the interludes shouldve been stuck together and used as the 'end credits'.

I think my "problem" with WBTM is that it feels too short. That kind of songs calls for a double, long, dense record but this one isn't. Actually WBTM feels like a very radio friendly album disguised as an experimental one. So when I listen to it from start to finish I end up asking "is that it?". Feels too short, don't know if I'm the only one.

George Martin wanted the White Album to be trimmed into a single super-strong record, but I think all the little detours into short/experimental/novelty bits actually enhance the atmosphere. I'd be up for an extended WBTM not just with more songs, but with more snippets of Noel experimenting in the studio.

Did not know that the choral elements on Man Who Built The Moon is just Noel's voice tracked about 100 times laden with effects! Nice bit of studio trickery from David Holmes that, as ever, goes a long way.
Noel would be an idiot not to work with him again.

I think I read that somewhere but can't remember where so maybe I'm wrong.

Yeah, he's said he already has material for an album and a half right now, but that those songs may sit around for years still, because he wants to do another "from scratch" album with Holmes.

Ok, I'm not going to go song by song, but I've had the album since the day it was released. I piddled with it. I listened to the beginnings of all the songs, excitedly. Got busy and didn't listen anymore that day.
Listened to some whole songs. I thought the ones on the trailer were ok, but nothing great.
I listened to the whole thing in my truck and again, it was ok. I thought to myself "This is the first album from Oasis/Liam/Noel that I will listen to passively. It's just on when I'm doing something else."
Then a week and a half ago, I put it on when I was at the gym. Decent headphones, a solid block of time. Here we go.
It was a TOTALLY different listening experience. I heard textures and I heard space. I enjoyed every single song. I wasn't listening critically. I was just digging it. Lots of folks have used "cinematic" and it certainly has those elements, as well.
I was kind of put off by both instrumentals built off of the acoustic finger picking phrase. Noel's not an interesting enough player to pull that off. I like the 2nd one better than the first, but I kept thinking, did someone in the studio think this was album worthy?
Anyway, too long winded, but I really like the album now. I am also still listening to As You Were.

I don’t know but there must be something wrong with me but to me the album is just horrible . The songs just aren’t there ,it’s a shame as I quite like the production that Holmes brings to it but as far as the descion to write in the studio well it me that has been a disaster. There are only 3 really descent songs on it (STHTF,BAWS,ILITL) I know a lot of people like the title track but to me it is just durge and completely devoid of melody and the chorus well it’s hardly a sing a along anthem . What else is there ? 3 rubbish instrumentals ,2 songs just written around a riff (KOR, BCWYWF) and then you have Holy Mountain which is in its category of just god awful . I have loved every Gallagher related release since 94 and it gives me no pleasure to say this but WBTM is rubbish and not worthy of Noel putting his name on it . He should have put it out under another name like Paul MCarthey does ie The Fireman for experimental albums . Am not surprised the tour has not sold out and it won’t . oh Forgot Beautiful World ok 4 good songs .

Listening to it now for the nth time. My fav of the 3 Noel solo albums, enjoy it a lot than probably half of Oasis albums really. It is superb.
And Holy Mountain is an absolute smash. A belter. A stone-cold classic. So sorry for those that don't get it. So much joy.

this album is definitely a grower. i wasnt the biggest fan when it first came out but i listen to it a lot more than i did when it came out. I think holy mountain and tmwbtm are the best tunes on it.
however, i still find myself listening to ayw more

Honestly, I've really struggled with this. The three songs I keep going back to are:
Black and White Sunshine Be careful What You Wish For Keep On Reaching
All three are probably the most conventional tunes on this record. I'm not going to go outta my way to slag it off, that's not my way.
I remember staying up all night with Noel's first two records, trying to play em on my guitar and sharing in the excitement on here. Just didn't get that vibe this time. Good to see he is doing well with it though.
