Listened to it a few times now and it is not doing it for me. Starts off ok, really like keep on reaching but in the main i am disappointed. Not the album I was expecting, not out there like the man had suggested. It’s ok but no better than previous efforts.

Here's my question. How will it age, and how will it age for this forum?
Between albums, I'm not here too often. Only once in a while for quick checkups.
When Chasing Yesterday came out, it was highly praised around here. Very highly. During my check ins, I didn't really go to the Noel section, mainly the Oasis section. So I come back 24/7 with the tab always open 7 months ago in preparation for AYW and WBTM. And I can't believe how much CY dropped for many. It seemed to have gone from brilliant to "boring", "uninspired", "a rushed collection of songs to get out of the way so he can go work with Holmes", "dad rock mixed with techno crap". Obviously not everyone said this, but way more than I was expecting.
I was quite surprised. The original euphoria from it is gone, but I hasn't really dropped or dried up for me. But this forum seems to do the "Best Thing since BHN" thing after release, then 2 years down the road its in the meh pile with "should have been like this, should have been like that..."
So I'm intrigued what will happen with WBTM. Hoping the aging process is a great one.

So I'm intrigued what will happen with WBTM. Hoping the aging process is a great one. I think it's going to age very, very well with the general public. In time those who haven't bought into it will realize this isn't really Noel doing something contrived, but really just expanding his range. I already think it's his best solo record, even though the first half doesn't really grab me. The explosion after the interlude is just genius. The forum will do what the forum does. A month ago As You Were was the best thing since Morning Glory, now it's Noel's turn. Then it'll level off and we'll do it all again in a year or two.

After the first listen I'm still undecided as to how I feel about this album. Only four tracks left a lasting impression on me ("B&W Sunshine", "If Love Is The Law", "The Man Who Built The Moon" and "Dead In The Water" are TUNES), so take that as you will. See you after the second listening for more

Really hard to tell what the opinion might be after year or two but the feeling i have now tells me that this album will age a little better than CY. Songs like Dead in the Water will most likely age pretty well because it's just basic and classic Noel with great melody and lyrics can't see it being suddenly crap in 2019. Overall the production is great and not linked to any age or style which leads me to think that at least some parts will be good in the future also.

So here we go, then. Seventeen years after Standing on the Shoulders of Giants, Noel is ready to give it another go - but instead of gloomy and introspective, this one's all about the joy. Who Built the Moon? Let's find out:
FORT KNOX (9) Well, this is just epic. I love the bass, I love the drums, I love the chanting, and - unlike many - I love the alarm clock. It's a big, ringing, in-your-face statement; "WAKE UP MOTHERFUCKERS - IT'S GO TIME". Couldn't have possibly kicked the album off better.
HOLY MOUNTAIN (8) Loved this the first time I heard it, love it now. Yeah, it's over-compressed and no, you won't be able to turn it into a melancholy acoustic song - but stick it on and within three seconds of blaring brass I'm up for it. Big bassline, massive chorus, and that sample is one of the most delicious pieces of joy I've heard since the Everything Now piano riff. Just have fun!
KEEP ON REACHING (7) A great bassline (hatrick already!) and loads of fun, but feels like one of the not-stellar tracks maybe because it's essentially a less crazy version of Holy Mountain. Still, loads of energy and great fun to dance to. Production is perfect and it's catchier than ebola.
BEAUTIFUL WORLD (8.5) Man, the bass on this album! Another fantastic instrumental, lots of menace and groove with a really gorgeous set of verses on them (both melodically and lyrically). Noel sounds sarcastic and sultry, and then the cosmic distant chorus is that patented mix of hope and sadness. More great production and that French speech is just brilliant. So cool, and a perfect fit for the track.
SHE TAUGHT ME HOW TO FLY (8) This one is just made of melody. So, so catchy and uplifting. I like the electronic/dance vibe mixed with the guitars, and "all...the roads...are only comin' back to youuuuuuuuuuu" is one of the highlight moments of the album in my opinion. However, it is over-produced and sounded more free and energetic on Jools to my ears. Big fan of the little choral stabs, though.
INTERMISSION (WEDNESDAY PART TWO) (7) Works much better in this position, and adds some nice atmosphere to the album. It's a lot better retrospectively, though, for reasons I will explain later on in this cosmic pop voyage.
BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR (7) Works well in it's context. Smoky, sexy, groovy. Feels like it's missing something to work as a standalone, but it sounds fantastic when surrounded by the other tracks. The moments when the grooves kick in are among the coolest on the record and the lyrics are really cool too. Good centrepiece.
BLACK & WHITE SUNSHINE (6) This is the one track I could see the album being more-or-less fine without. To me, this sounds like the kind of stuff we would have got if Noel wrote at home and then got David to spruce it up - sure, it's produced well and has an uplifting chorus line, but overall it just sounds like a sparkly Smith's knock-off. Works well after BCWYWF, though, and I still enjoy it when it's on. If this is the worst track, we're doing very fucking well.
IF LOVE IS THE LAW (8) Oh, I wish it could be Christmas every track! The first bit sounds a bit sugary at first, but when the harmonica comes in it's just so uplifting. And that solo! Makes me smile every fucking time. A really great pop tune, full of joy and happiness, and a good sing-a-long too. Holmes earns his keep big time with the sound.
THE MAN WHO BUILT THE MOON (10) I have no words. Best Gallagher track since D'You Know What I Mean?.
END CREDITS (WEDNESDAY PART TWO) [8.5] What I love about this is that when you first hear Wednesday One, you're thinking "Oh, this is pleasant. Nice little interlude, not that amazing though" - and then when it comes back after TMWBTM, it suddenly sounds like the most ominous and foreboding thing ever. Really creepy and beautiful, feels like the man who built the moon walking calmly away from the devastation he just caused.
DEAD IN THE WATER (POST-CREDITS SCENE) [9.5] Well, this Noel guy's pretty good, isn't he? After an album of cinematic variety and bold fleshed-out tracks, he just reminds us what he can do if you just give him a guitar and a bit of echo. What a gorgeous, beautiful, and genuinely moving track. The perfect way to round things out, in stark contrast to the perfect way things began.
OVERALL: 8.5/10 Fantastic. It's bold, energetic, creative, and flows better than Nicole Scherzinger's hair. A real creative turning point for Noel, and one of the album's of the year. Best tracks are Fort Knox, Beautiful World, The Man Who Built the Moon, and Dead in the Water - and there's no real weak points, although the middle has flaws. Please, Noel, never go back.

Not a fan of the album at all BUT Love Is The Law is a tune. The rest of the album for me is easily forgettable for me and not something I’d come back to. In my opinion the most forgettable Noel Gallagher album ever which is a shame. I don’t even think the tunes sit well together on the album tbh. Gutted

I like Dead in the water. It sounds a lot like late U2 to me. Especially the vocal melodies. There's some weird effect on Noel's vocals though which I'm not that fond of (no, not talking about the reverb...I love reverb). Kinda makes it sound like he sings with a sock in his mouth or something. If I remember right, Noel had a cold when he was playing in Dublin. That's why his vocals in Dead in the water and Dying of the light sound strange.

But I was too giddy for it.

13 pages just on this thread, few days after the leak, got my deluxe CD version this morning and listened for the 1st time, guessing all that's gonna be said has been said already. All I can add is my opinion, I really like it Reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when they've probably been said somewhere already......

Here's my verdict so far Fort Knox 8/10 Holy Mountain 7/10 Keep on Reaching 4/10 Beautiful World 7,5/10 She Taught Me How To Fly 8,5/10 Interlude (Wednesday Part 1) 7/10 Be Careful What You Wish For 5/10 Black & White Sunshine 5,5/10 If Love Is The Law 5,5/10 The Man Who Built The Moon 8/10 End Credits (Wednesday Part 2) 7/10 Dead In The Water 8/10 I would rate some of the songs even higher if the vocals were better! All in all I have to say that I don't find this album experimental at all and normally there's nothing wrong with it not being out there (I really don't care if things are different - if it's good it's good). But the weird thing is that Noel keeps saying that it is so different and that's not being the case makes him look narrow-minded imo I even think some of the songs on this album sound like they could be the worst songs on Dig Out Your Soul

So I've had chance to give it a few spins now.
Fort Knox - 8/10 Holy Mountain - 5.5/10 Keep On Reaching - 7/10 It's A Beautiful World - 8/10 She Taught Me How To Fly - 8/10 Be Careful What You Wish For - 7.5 Black & White Sunshine - 8/10 Interlude (Wednesday Part 1) - 4/10 If Love Is The Law - 6/10 The Man Who Built The Moon - 9/10 End Credits (Wednesday Part 2) - 4/10 Dead In The Water - 8.5/10
Very enjoyable album. Could do without the interludes, do nothing for me and will never listen to them. Be Careful What You Wish For would be an 8 if it was a minute and a half shorter, drags way to much, lovely melody though. If Love Is The Law hasn't clicked with me yet, not a fan at the moment.
The rest is brilliant.
I will say, I don't see how this is an experimental album though, it sounds pretty much what I'd expect a Noel album in 2017 to sound like just with a few different instruments here and there.
