This is my 2017: Best Of playlist at the moment, with only two songs per artist: 1) Everything Now - Arcade Fire 2) Holy Mountain - Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds 3) Holding On - The War on Drugs 4) Wall of Glass - Liam Gallagher 5) HUMBLE - Kendrick Lamar 6) Passiona - The Smith Street Band 7) Dangerous - The XX 8) Reverie - Arca 9) The Story of OJ - Jay Z 10) Soak - Zola Jesus 11) Thinking of a Place - The War on Drugs 12) Summer Bummer - Lana Del Ray 13) Paper Crown - Liam Gallagher 14) ALIENS - Coldplay 15) Foreword - Tyler, the Creator 16) I Promise - Radiohead 17) Hang on Me - St. Vincent 18) Creature Comfort - Arcade Fire 19) Call + Form - Milo 20) Shine - The Smith Street Band 21) The Man Who Built the Moon - Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds 22) Performance - The XX Anyone got any suggestions? I'd hate to miss anything good. As you've got I Promise in there, what about this leftover from ★: It was included in the cast recording of his musical Lazarus, put out last year, but its release as part of an EP (also called No Plan) on January 8th of this year was its first proper release. Some other bits and bobs I've liked from this year: Elbow - Magnificent (She Says) Holy Holy - That Message Laura Marling - Soothing Lucy Rose - Second Chance Paul Weller - She Moves with the Fayre; Satellite Kid Queens of the Stone Age - The Way You Used to Do; Hideaway Radiohead - Man of War (I'm sure you didn't forget this, but I felt I had to mention it anyway) Slowdive - Sugar for the Pill Spoon - Hot Thoughts Wolf Alice - Beautifully Unconventional Also, some Alvvays, but you're not keen on them, are you? That's a good track, do you know why it was not on Blackstar? There's a few tracks there that I like but don't love (Laura Marling and Slowdive), I'll the rest a listen as soon as my Definitely Maybe playlist ends (Listen Up has just come on after Cigarettes & Alcohol, and Slide Away's next, so...) Nah, I'm not an Alvvays fan. I think if you're gonna be that outrageously pleasant and dreamy, you need something unique to not just fade into the background. For me, the lyrics and the sound and the singing and everything about them is just kind of...nice. Nothing about them grabs me, but they're alright.

As You Were is good but wouldn't say it's some of the best stuff I've heard this year. Tracks on the album are on my favorite songs of the year though: Doesn't Have To Be That Way Chinatown Universal Gleam I've All I Need Universal Gleam's alright, innit? Along with Chinatown, it's definitely one of the better produced As You Were tracks. Definitely. I don't get the hate for either of them, the atomsphere is nailed, not cliche for Liam and aren't brickwalled noise fests.

I know you're not a fan of Slowdive or Alvvays, so I'm not gonna bore you to death with my praises of them, but there's one more album you've gotta check out. And that's James Holden's The Animal Spirits. Awesome organic electronica that was apparently improvised with a live band in the studio without overdubs (!). Let's make a deal. If you listen to The Animal Spirits, I'll check out The Smith Street Band, aka that band TheEscapist won't shut up about ( ). Report back in this thread. Deal?

The Horrors - V Honestly this album is sublime. Give it a listen, I think many here will love it. Strikes a perfect blend of indie rock, industrial rock and neo-psychedelia. A guitar album, but also much more than that. @driver7, have you listened to it?

But I like what I've heard so far

Really cool to see how the forum's taste in music has evolved over the years. I couldn't imagine people mentioning stuff like James Holden or Arca back when I used to post more!
Some of my favorites this year:
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Flying Microtonal Banana / Murder of the Universe / Sketches of Brunswick East / Polygondwanaland (four in a year!) Pond - The Weather Kelela - Take Me Apart Vince Staples - Big Fish Theory Feist - Metals Floating Points - Reflections – Mojave Desert James Holden & The Animal Spirits - The Animal Spirits The Charlatans - Different Days (Hope these guys never stop, can't think of a more consistently good band from the '90s) Bjork - Utopia Kendrick Lamar - DAMN. The Horrors - V
And songs
Kikagaku Moyo - In a Coil Avalon Emerson - One More Kelly Lee Owens - Lucid Joey Bada$$ - SUPER PREDATOR Talaboman - Loser’s Hymn Temples - I Wanna Be Your Mirror Frank Ocean - Biking (Solo) Liam Gallagher - Greedy Soul Charlotte Gainsbourg - Deadly Valentine (Soulwax Remix)

Yeah good little record that Curtis Harding, he's got another older one as well. It was an actually rock solid record. Danger Mouse is killing it production wise. Is it the past or the future? I don't know.

Sad times Not for me. 2017 has been an another music year with great new releases - Slowdive, Weller, Mogwai, The National, Daughter, Out Lines, Moz, Liam and Noel. I can't complain and hopefully 2018 will be same or even better.

itunes.apple.com/gb/album/icaros/1293712624I recommend this if you like soulful electronica (Think A Seat At The Table). So soulful, sound like they should hail from Chi-Town or somewhere but, nope, Leeds, Yorkshire. Go figure.

Sad times Total identity crisis. Do they really think the pop kids will start reading the NME? Not even the best Frank Ocean song of the year. Big For Your Boots is a banger though. Should be on more song of the year lists.

I don't tend to listen to a lot of new albums that come out, I just stick to the ones by artists I'm already interested in or come heavily recommended here. Not because i dislike new music it's just honestly I've not got the time to listen as much as I used to. So more than not, when I have an hour or two - I'll turn to Oasis, Verve, Beatles, the Jam, Buzzcocks, Smiths, Neil Young, etc. I do enjoy discovering new artists but I often do so slowly.
So there were lots of notable releases this year of interest to me
Liam - As you were Noel - WBTM Verve - Urban hymns reissue (+unreleased session tracks) Beatles - Sgt Pepper's 20th anniversary Paul Weller - A Kind Revolution Smiths - the Queen is Dead reissue (demos) Neil Young - the visitor...not heard it yet but will this weekend Ride - the Weather diaries Fastball - Step Into Light Trainspotting 2 soundtrack
