ILITL is absolutely brilliant. Standout track for me.
TMWBTM is NGHFB and CY with a more clever producer. The synth-strings remind me of Genesis' "Can-Utility and the Coastliners", which is really cool.
Wednesday, Part 2 really makes me wish for a Noel instrumental album. Again, shades of prog-era Genesis.
DITW: Joins Alone on the Rope as the best thing he's done solo. The piano enhances it, whatever Noel may have felt about it at the time.
GHUA: Wish it was better recorded, but I'll have it.
All in all, the "all-new, all-different" conceit mars the first half of the album. It feels exactly like a midlife crisis album. And then the Chief reasserts himself in the second half, and we end up with his strongest solo album, just on the strength of that half.
When the experimental arrangements are in the service of Noel's natural instincts as a composer, it all comes together beautifully. But when they take center stage (I'm already thinking of the first half as Holmes', really), it goes off the rails.
No hyperbole from me, not "the best since Morning Glory" or anything like that. I rank it below the Oasis canon, but above his previous two records.

Can you imagine going back and playing his first solo album after this? 😂 It's gonna be like partying with high school kids to playing bingo at the nursing home.

To me it isn't an total epic change in direction for Noel as is mooted. But I tell ye what it's absolutely and utterly SUPERB record.

To me it isn't an total epic change in direction for Noel as is mooted. But I tell ye what it's absolutely and utterly SUPERB record. Its clear he was onto something with tracks like The Right Stuff and While The Song Remains The Same. Noel has never been one to take giant leaps. This is a progression from tracks like that to this record and he's even more willing to add more to the stew considering CY. He still is falling for his own tropes with some of the goofy singles though. He needs to get over the "Gotta have a single!" mindset and craft a record from top to bottom without consideration for the radio/videos/etc.

Its not an album track. Its a solo acoustic live in studio/extra/bonus track and its excellent for what it is. Its a gorgeous tune. The album is over at The Man Who Built The Moon unless you count "End Credits" which is nice in its own right. You want Noel by numbers? The entire Jools set. The pre-release tracks are the most uninspiring on the record aside from Beautiful World.

OK, few more tracks in- LITL and TMWBTM are unbelievable. I'm a huge HM fan but imagine the album hype if LITL had been the first single. This is his best solo album for me.

Thats fine, but my point still stands lol Dead In The Water is not an album track. Its basically a b-side, just added on deluxe editions.
