Let the games begin! I'm sure that many of you will agree with me when I say that 1997 was an EPOCHAL year. I start salivating whenever anyone mentions 1997. So many classics were released in this year alone. And yet, it would be fair to call 1997 a transitional year. You had 90's titans like Oasis, Blur, Portishead, Bjork, The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy, and U2 putting out fantastic albums, while landmarks by Radiohead, Daft Punk, Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Elliot Smith, and The Verve pointed toward the next millennium. But that's just a long way of saying that 5 choices won't be enough to cover everyone's favorites. Here are mine, as tough as it was to whittle it down: OK Computer Homogenic Dig Your Own Hole Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space Blur Honorable mention to Pop, Portishead, The Fat of the Land, Vanishing Point, Either/Or, Supa Dupa Fly, and practically everything else. P.S. let's not be predictable. Nobody vote for Urban Hymns, please.

Where is Paul McCartney's Flaming Pie?? I love that record. Shania Twain gets on the list and the ex chief songwriter for Wings is forgotten. This poll is a sham!

The Verve Urban Hymns for me, still a epic album to this day and the last great thing Richard Ashcroft has done imo.
Some great stuff that year like Ok Computer and Homework. Plus Blur's best album too.

I'm gonna assume that the zero votes for Let's Get Killed is payback for "ruining" a great songwriter....
