that was shocking... with 2 minutes to go. The first foul was questionable but James didn't have to knock down henry like that cause it probably would have went out anyway. hmmm the muppet did take one off the nose which was quite funny.  |

When taking a penalty it is pure luck....you have a 50-50 chance. France were so lucky and if anyone is a muppet i think it should be Gerrad....did you see that back pass to James? It wasn't Beckie's fault, barthez guessed right. He almost started celebrating as soon as it left his foot.
But croatia and the swiss should be easy barring any major upset.

it was pretty hard to take - took a few minutes to sink in. But overall a lot of positives can be taken from the game. On that form, we will beat Croatia and Switzerland (who were both woeful today) and progress to the quarters. It is no crisis
a couple of individual errors and bad luck really. Although i dont think penalties are down to luck - if you put the ball in the top corner, there is no goalkeeper ever gonna save. Far too many players hit the ball to close to the keeper and at the wrong height
Also, having Beckham take a penalty against Barthez was strange in my eyes. They played together at man united - Barthez must know Beckhams' style inside out.
And yet again James showed himself to be a liability. Being a good shot stopper just isnt enough at the highest level - decision making and composure are also crucial. He got it worng - twice

Just because he didn't save a penalty...and I am sure James didn't intentionally mean to slide into Henry so harshly, if he had time to think about it i'm sure he wouldn't have done so...especially if he realised the consequences would have been a penalty, it was a split second decision he made though...obvioulsy in his position he felt France were in danger of scoring. And our defence was shocking. Ok so penalties aren't down to pure luck perhaps and i don't think it's good enough either - one of the best english midfielders ever, missing a pen but the pressure they are under in that position must be so immense. The pressure doesn't help. And Heskey? Ha.... he is crap! But yes, i am confident we will beat Crotia and Switzerland. COME ON ENGLAND! ;D |

we deserved to win, they did nothing till injury time. How good was rooney? and why was he taken off? Yeh Gerrard made a mistake but it was his only mistake all game, and ashley cole should of called for him to leave it. Still i think he will be awesome on thursday, he'll prove everyone wrong.
As Ds says we can take a lot from it because they didnt outclass us at all, in fact we were every bit as good as them. we'll just have to beat them in the final! ;D

Sorry mate but I have to disagree with you on that one, although I dont think you deserved to lose either. A draw would have been a fair result. I thought England were really negative in the second half. If you sit in and defend for that length of time versus a team like France they will eventually pull a bit of brilliance out from somewhere and punish you. I have to say though that Rooney was brilliant, pity he's such a gadgie. |

the more i think about it, the more the result hurts but you have to take away the good despite my swiss parentage i firmly believe we will win 2-0 we will then beat croatia that puts us into the next phase on the rise had we beaten les bleus we would have beaten the swiss next but then probly coasted vs croatia... so into the 2nd phase without the same momentum and so i predict we will make the semis and beyond that... who knows  |
