So Noel and several critics have often lamented that he didn't save the more stellar Morning Glory b-sides for Be Here Now, making it a better album. Personally, I've always disregarded the idea, thinking that the songs on BHN are not the problem - however, I recently realised that MG has enough hits on it as is, and if The Masterplan would have been saved, it would have provided a great fifth single for BHN (Don't Go Away) and automatically increased it's reputation / success everywhere. What about Acquiesce, Rockin' Chair, Headshrinker, Talk Tonight?
In fact, I've recently been thinking - disregarding the mad affection we all have for Be Here Now, how could you realistically have created an album which might have satisfied the hype? So far, this is the album I've made:
BE HERE NOW 1) D'You Know What I Mean? 2) Stay Young 3) The Masterplan 4) Stand By Me 5) I Hope, I Think, I Know 6) The Girl in the Dirty Shirt 7) Going Nowhere 8) Fade In/Out 9) Don't Go Away 10) Be Here Now 11) All Around the World 12) It's Gettin' Better (Man!!) 13) All Around the World (Reprise)
Would you change Be Here Now with the MG b-sides in any way, or leave it as it is?

Oasis has outstanding b-sides, fact, but The Masterplan IMO is a song which Noel should have saved for BHN like he life would depend on it, it's well written, well sung, well produced, it's just so well made it hurts, a classic song which deserved a better fate than just a b-side.
At the time he said he needed another songs as a b-side for Wonderwall single, hell just put another live version, a demo or something on it.
But at least TM has the redeeming factor for being the name for their b-side compilation, also had a promo video for Stop The Clocks.

Nope, the b-sides are what helped to shape Oasis. They are part of the story. Also, Be Here IS just RIGHT! None of the Morning Glory b-sides would work and also, if something like The Masterplan would have been saved for the Be Here Now sessions then it might have ended up being recorded differently and being, as many have called Be Here Now, too long and have too many guitars.
In fact, this is something that really grinds my gears. You always get people saying "The Masterplan should have been on Be Here Now" etc when, if that would have happened, the song may have been massively different to what we have. It could almost have been a Magic Pie type of song (I'm not saying it would have been, just an example)..I mean, both periods had different recording styles, different productions. It's too simplistic to say something along them lines. If Noel had used Don't Go Away for the Morning Glory/Wonderwall etc sessions, that might have sounded different also. This is something we will never know and it really does my head in when people try and shoehorn 'The Masterplan' etc onto Be Here Now

If you experienced the band's story as it unfolded , you just can't think of Masterplan NOT coming out in late 1995 it was utterly staggering, all those great MG tunes and then: to be blown away again swamp song round are way, underneath the sky. People take the piss now but the 'new Beatles' tag they were getting didn't seem so far fetched in the middle of that glorious time to be a teenager, which I wouldn't trade for anything.

Stay Young should nowhere be near an 90's Oasis album.
