So he left it off of BHN. But he puts on IHITIK? Don't get me wrong, I like IHITIK. But Stay Young is far superior. And both have equal poppiness to them. #NoelLogic

What's wrong with this thread? Doesn't seem that bad to me.
I agree actually that Stay Young is better than I Hope, I Think, I Know and should have been on Be Here Now. It's catchy, fun, charming. BHN needed more of that.

And it's always just opinion posts that go like this: "I'm just gonna say it. Acquiesce is the essential Oasis tune. Liam and Noel sharing vocal duties. Complete representation of Oasis. PLUS BONEHEAD IS A DUDE. I don't care what anybody says." Can't these thoughts go into the "what are your thoughts of the day?" thread? |

Stay Young would have been the first single/anthem the people (meaning the mainstream, not Gallagher fanatics) would have wanted to keep them on board. Especially after Princess Di passed and the Spice Girls/boy band/popstar scene was hitting. Something upbeat, fun, catchy and positive. Not something long, loud and arrogant.
Now obviously I'm fine with how things turned out, but from a popularity from the masses point of view, Stay Young-Don't Go Away-All Around the World-Stand By Me and eventually Go Let It Out-Let's All Make Believe and SCYHO and Lyla down the road, there probably would have been more mass appeal for another decade.
DYWIM seemed to have halted people and had them jump off in a "Fuck these arrogant clowns" sort of way.

In an interview around BHN's release Noel says that he also thinks that IHITIK is "too pop" but only put it on because the tracklist needed balance.

Yes, in terms of album balance, Stay Young and IHITIK are a bit too similar, so one of them would always make way for the B side, and as Noel was always a fan of having superior B sides, you can see why Stay Young became the B side. Likewise, I think Noel was fond of The Fame too, and this also became shunted out as a high quality B side. |

Noel also said 'I Hope I Think I Know' was "too pop" and claimed "The only reason it's on the album is for balance because it's quite fast". Personally I think it's the better of the two but like Noel I agree that the demo was better (minus the vocals obviously). I struggle to listen to 'Stay Young' to be honest.

I'm not quite following what you're saying. What do you mean? There's a couple of moderators on here who consistently discourage people from expressing opinions, often accusing them of causing arguments, for instance, when differences of opinion are where discussion stems from. |

Nothing wrong with this thread at all. Its a good discussion point. And anyone who gets annoyed at the obvious light hearted other threads needs to lighten up a bit.
Stay Young didnt make it because Noel wanted to sing a song on the album and put Magic Pie on.
All this stuff about balance is bullshit. You cant be too "poppy" in a Britpop era. Look at Morning Glory, its absolutely full of pop songs. The balance is about quality and the only balance you're affecting by putting Magic Pie on is the quality balance.
