Hi! At the moment I'm struggling to find some interesting modern bands. In the previous years I've discovered St. Vincent, Mac DeMarco, Iceage (Danish post-punk), Alvvays, Wolf Alice, Thee Oh Sees, DIIV, Car Seat Headrest, Courthey Barnett, Beach Fossils, Ought (Canadian post-punk) and Royal Blood. So IMO the good bands still exist despite the fact that so many rock fans are obsessed with it's past and don't think that good music is still being made.
My fav genres are grunge, shoegaze, post-punk and so-called 'britpop'. I like electronic influences in rock music. So... any suggestions? What modern bands do you like?

They're kind of more indie than alternative rock, but they implement so many different styles into their music that it's difficult to define, and that band is The Horrors. Their new album 'V' is absolutely amazing, I also picked up the 2011 album Skying a few weeks ago for a few quid in a second hand music store and its equally brilliant.
A band that started out as a fairly ho-hum landfill indie act in 2007 has turned into something extraordinary, and it's a testament to their broad mindedness and sense of creativity that they have branched out, made some great albums and become stronger as a result of this.
An example to all garage indie bands of the mid 2000s - follow these guys, ignore your shite lumpen cliched bands like Kasabian, Catfish and The Enemy. They have nothing on this lot, who really have turned into a great band.

The funny thing is - I freaking love the Horrors, I didn't include them on my list because this band is 10 yeard old. and I like some other bands from 00's as well (most of them are a part of so-called garage-rock movement). PS Catfish and Bottlemen is a really horrible band. They have no charm!

Their debut was probably at the level of the Kasabian debut (which I do like even if everything after for me has been utterly appalling) but not one I'd love and was fairly forgettable. There was nothing in there for me to think 'here is a great band just waiting to get out'. No hint, but the magically transformed into something incredible in the last few years!

Their debut is good but people who think they went downhill after it are so strange - I dob't wanna 5 'gothic-rock' records with no variety at all.

I think it's a really great song and I have a feeling I'm going to like their other stuff too as a shoegaze and psychedelic rock fan

I don't know if they're fit to "modern alternative rock" bands, but here's my most favourite bands/singer (and some of them are matt's too) - The Twilight Sad (I really really love them. To me they're the best band which came out since 2007) - Mogwai (an another big favourite of mine. One of the loudest bands in the world) - Cat Power (nobody can beat her voice!) - Frightened Rabbit (an another Scottish treasure) - The National (been listening to them since 2007) Also: - Minor Victories (formed by Stuart Braithwaite from Mogway and Rachel Goswell from Slowdive and some others) - Out Lines (a side project of The Twilight Sad singer James Graham with 2 talented musicians) - Slowdive (their new album since 20 years is a jewel!) I quite like dark and miserable music, but it doesn't say that I'm dark and miserable person. Nice thread for us, music lovers on L4E Forum.
