PLOCK, Poland (AP) -- It was a good day all around for the United States as it ended Poland's seven-match winning streak with a convincing 1-0 win.
The Americans gained some revenge for losing to the Poles 3-1 at the World Cup and handed Bruce Arena his first victory in Europe. In addition, some less heralded names like Gregg Berhalter and Conor Casey got a chance to show they belong on the team.
After Beasley's goal, which came against the run of play, the United States took control of the match against Poland, which had nominated a veteran team.
The defense rarely allowed the Poles a good scoring chance in one of its major warmups before World Cup qualifying begins June 13 with a two-leg series against Grenada.
The same couldn't be said of the Americans, much to the dismay of the 13,000 Polish fans in attendance, many of whom expected another win for their national team.
In the 58th, Casey had his foot on Bobby Convey's pass right in front of the goal, but a defender punched it away at the last minute. Before that, Clint Mathis took the game's most spectacular shot -- volleying a long cross by Reyna over the crossbar.
Poland: 1-Jerzy Dudek; 4-Marcin Baszczynski (17-Tomasz Hajto 46), 2-Tomasz Klos, 6-Jacek Bak, 3-Tomasz Rzasa; 7-Euzebiusz Smolarek (16-Damian Gorawski 62), 10-Mariusz Lewandowski (14-Sebastian Mila 71), 5-Arkadiusz Radomski (15-Miroslaw Szymkowiak 46), 8-Jacek Krzynowek; 9-Grzegorz Rasiak (18-Marek Saganowski 46), 11-Maciej Zurawski
United States: 1-Brad Friedel; 3-Gregg Berhalter, 6-Steve Cherundolo, 25-Pablo Mastroeni (4-Carlos Bocanegra 52), 13-Greg Vanney; 22-Chris Klein (5-Tony Sanneh 75), 10-Claudio Reyna, 9-Clint Mathis (8-Kerry Zavagnin 86), 17-DaMarcus Beasley, 11-Conor Casey, 16-Josh Wolff (15-Bobby Convey 46)
