For those who like this I’d like to recommend Tony Basil, Dr & The Medics and Jim Carey movies.
You guys are gonna love that stuff.

Usually I don't hate or dislike songs, but this is a total disaster. I love Do the Damage, Mucky Fingers is ok, but this one is neither a new sound nor out of his comfort sound. It's a horribly produced plodding song and I don't get the catchyness or sing-a-long references some are hearing here. I have to admit the annoying flute is stuck in my head.. Seriously confused what this record is going to be as I loved what I heard in 2 of 3 previews (and the Beautiful World preview grew on me), but Holy Mountain as a single choice is totally nuts. Ridiculous song. For me it doesn't also have to do with being out of the comfort zone..I love the Amorphous Adrogynous remixes, I love UNKLE stuff and also listen to Kanye West, so I'm all up for Noel doing something different, but this is not different. As many mentioned on here already it sounds like one of the 2010 demos. One thought: Could the lack of proper promotion also mean that Noel is actually not supportive anymore of this record? See it coming already he will bash it in a few years... Someone who's connected with Noel's camp made the point that the low keyness is intentional. This has been the most excited Noel has been about an album in ages. He was also beyond excited about Heathen Chemistry. Just saying.

Fair point. But something like Holy Mountain really shouldn't be eliciting such harsh criticism.i think alot of its just payback for the criticizing of liams album...i guessed some peoples comments just by their avatar. I wonder how much As You Were is being unconsciously brought into this debate. On Saturday, we were all rocking out to Liam's catchy as-you-were, standard rock music. On Sunday, we get hit with Noel's Holy Mountain. The dichotomy between the juxtaposition of the two must be massive...

He was also beyond excited about Heathen Chemistry. Just saying. He didn't do a 180 on that album until several years later. I just don't get why people either don't think this album is coming out or don't believe that Noel is completely behind this. This is a runaway train. Either get off the tracks or prepared to be hit!

For me it's what happened with Amorphous Androgynous. He announced both records and secretly worked on the "real" one. He got scared. That's why I believe there could be a small chance he is scared again, but no parallel record is in the shelf and maybe production+promotion plans for WBTM got too far earlier this year to scrap it. Hence, the only option was to scale it down and keep it intentionally low-key and in case it fails it doesn't attract too much attention. Sure he will tell in every interview how excited he is, anything else would be a PR disaster if he talked bad about before release and in the first months after. Edit: But acually I don't believe it will fail if the other tracks have the quality of the three previews instead of Holy Mountain. I really hope this will be the weakest song on the record as it doesn't get across anything for me.

You go from Liam by the numbers to this which isn't quite the norm. But the thought process and judgement should be completely different from one to the other. They are completely different types of sounds and from different albums. Only thing in common is the last name of the singer.

They never even completed mixing or mastering. This is completely different. Everything is done with this, the release date is out there, a single has been released, recording, mixing, mastering, and artwork are finished, and they've probably already budgetized it. There's a 0% chance that this won't be released. A turn back at this point literally never happens with any artist.

If it does turn out that most of Noel's fans hate Who Built the Moon and, as a result, it's a massive flop, he'll only have himself to blame. His decades of releasing dad rock means that people more resistant to experimental music have filled his loyal fanbase, and most of the fans who would appreciate something more daring would've run away years ago. This is what you get when you build up a reputation as a backwards "rock 'n' roller"!

You are totally right, it will definitely be released. The only thing I said above was, that I assume there could be slight chance that Noel is not 100% behind this record himself anymore and that the intentional scaled down of the promotion is a result of that with Noel starting to bash it in a few years.

Apologies for misreading. But I think Noel is 100% behind this record. So far, he has not remotely hedged on it. You can tell he had fun making this, he's really proud of the work, and he likes David Holmes. I think the scaled down promotion is more of a result of just working around As You Were, and being on tour half way around the globe. When his tour with U2 is finished it'll probably ratchet up quickly.

I almost never post but here's my opinion of what we've got so far. First of all Noel shocked me twice in an album cycle and the first single isn't even properly released. For me personally that's more then I could have hoped for. Also to some that were saying that he's trying too much to be a pop star with this song just point me to a single thing in the charts that's even remotely similar to this. The song is an upbeat throwback to 60's pop and I like it, and I love the fact that it's so different then the three promo tracks. Which indicates to me that we are gong to get a varied album which is good indeed. The chorus melody is very catchy and so are the horns and fun bass. And also this is definitely going to be very polarizing but honestly I couldn't give a toss for the people that listen to one genre of music and then complain when something is out of their comfort zone. That's like trying to make a stubborn kid try new food, a lost cause. Let the cognitive dissonance work on you. I listen to all genres of music as long as they're good. This song is not good, in fact it's annoying.

I don't think the split on this song has anything to do with what kind of music people listen to.
I just think that it comes down to different tastes.

Remember that 25 minute version of Falling Down? Who the fuck listened to that after the first time? I don't have half an hour to listen to a fucking track.

And the line "get out of the doledrums baby" could be easily interpreted as a message to himself to explore new sonic territory, as well as a call to his fans to follow him down that path.

This song is not good, in fact it's annoying. Bingo. I can go comfortably from Neil Young to Santigold to Nicolas Jaar to Guru. It’s not about being different or challenging - this single is neither - it’s about quality (or a lack of it). This song is sonic ebola.

Just got home from work. Finally getting to hear the full song. Its definitely catchy as fuck. Its more direct and rocky than I was expecting based on the clips from 2 weeks ago. So far we've heard 4 songs and they all seem different to the next and that is refreshing. This song has a strong summer vibe to my ears at 1:15 AM. Can't wait to download the real version from iTunes when I wake up.
Cheers.
