Great alternative for friendlies. Calling it summat different doesn't actually make it different mate. Just glorified friendlies at the end of the day, innit.errr...no? its linked in with euro qualifications, so doing well can actually be beneficial for teams. the exact opposite of friendlies. theres 4 euro spots available through this comp at the minute. this really should go global and eventually do away with traditional qualifiers altogether.

You're an idiot. Support a team who play a load of useless friendlies if you don't like it.

It’s coming home
Finishing top of a group consisting of Spain and Croatia is a great achievement. Really enjoyed the last ten minutes of that game as both teams went for it. These games are far better than boring qualifiers.

This competition is way better than qualifiers, but I think the three-team groups formula is a bit unbalanced. They didn't choose four-team groups because the international agenda would have been a lot more crowded, but I find it wrong.

And I still couldn’t give a toss. Well you're not of a country involved in the semi finals so I don't really blame you.

The format is way more entertaining than friendlies, gives players a bit more motivation in the summers between international tournaments. That England defence is shocking though - strange considering they had so many world class defenders back in the day and are traditionally known for strong defenders.

Playing out from the back is lovely in theory, but it does put quite a bit of pressure on the defenders to not play as if they are blind, deaf, and suffering from muscle dyspraxia. And that's just not always possible for England.

Playing out from the back is lovely in theory, but it does put quite a bit of pressure on the defenders to not play as if they are blind, deaf, and suffering from muscle dyspraxia. And that's just not always possible for England. It’s a cultural thing, not just with English football but British football as a whole - traditionally always lumping it long from back and emphasising brute force rather than technique (Scotland by far the worst at doing this) so it will take a few years before England is totally comfortable in ball playing centre backs. The game in England is slowly but surely accommodating continental methods though - cultural assimilation thanks to the high quality of coaching from the likes of Guardiola and Klopp - by far the two best managers in the game today. I’d prefer to see teams play out from back though. It’s much more proactive in controlling the game - think I saw the perfect example in the Liverpool/Barca match at Anfield. Van Dijk took the ball out and dribbled out from defence into midfield pulling all the Barca players out of position as they suddenly had an additional man in midfield to deal with. Once more English players come through and do that, then England will be in serious contention I think. The highly sophisticated foreign methods that focus on technique with a mix of the traditional physicality of English methods might produce a perfect blend that should see them compete in the future.
