Oh man, I don't remember getting this sad in ages  I wasn't even that big a fan but listening to his songs makes me very emotional now. His songwriting touched the same place Noel's does: You might not be a hardcore fan who own all the albums and has been to 20 gigs, but his songs reached you all the same, because they were that special. |

At this point, it's academic unfortunately. As some who's had to sign a DNR (A do not resuscitate), typically that's signed when there's no hope of a quality life even upon survival. CBS is pulling its report because he's not officially dead. But as I said, most likely, there hasn't been confirmation because they're probably waiting for friends and family to pay any last respects. But I really really really hope all of these reports are wrong. |

Unfortunately, this is the world we live in. The internet has created a thirst for information, which has caused a lot of news organizations to adapt and survive. When some outlets do it, it's clearly not malicious and a mistake, while some do it purely for the attention. The attention seekers cause the non-malicious ones to jump on the story or risk being left out of the loop. |

Hoping beyond hope that this is somehow wrong. He is my favorite artist, and just absolutely gutted. His tour just ended a week ago, and he was still making great music. One of the only artists to not ever make a bad album.

This sucks. I've listened to his albums for years growing up. That best of he had in the 90s was an endless listening experience from top to bottom. Only caught Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers once in concert back in 1999. They were phenomenal.

Tom Petty has been a part of my life via radio, tv and so on since I was a kid. Listening to " You Don't Know How IT Feels?" on the way to private Christian school. Lyrics blurring rolling another joint. In college, I made Radio Mockumentary. The theme music was "The Last DJ".
Lastly, in 2014 when I lost my job just before losing my dad and my beloved dog Chuck within a month. I loved "Wildflowers" on my phone as I cleaned the yard and wondering the future...

Tom Petty has his own channel on Sirius XM, one of only a handful of artists with that distinction....Tom did a show on the channel called 'Buried Treasure', where he handpicked the songs, great show...
I don't really know anyone who doesn't like at least one Tom Petty song....sad news.

I know Tom put on some great shows. As I said when we lost Chris Cornell, I need to make a list of all the people I want to see live and go see them, because one day it will be too late.
He was one of the first artists I got into and his music was there for some big moments in my life. It's hitting me just now as I write this. Ugh, this world sometimes.
