Here's the interview in French, until, Lubeck can translate it for you:
The Oasis frontman turned somewhat round since the split Beady Eye. Three years of reflection, some insults to his brother and the Mancunian returns as a solo artist. He explains it, not without a certain joke.
Meet Liam Gallagher. In 2017, to talk about his first solo album, "As You Were". Obviously. There are appointments that do not refuse. The album will be available in October. In the meantime, we have the right to listen to five songs: "For What It's Worth", "Wall Of Glass", "Bold", "All I Need And More" and "Paper Crown". From the melancholic rock'n'roll to the federative ballads, rather bare, with that voice that makes all the difference. Perhaps also a rough side, almost punk, when the guitars gnaw more than they caress. Liam makes Liam, without Oasis but with always the same salutary arrogance, the same unwavering faith. Not far from the Gare de l'Est, he waited in a hotel bar, while the heatwave devours the Parisian bitumen. Liam is hot but keeps his parka.
"I prefer to sweat and stay beautiful he says kid Sure..
ROCK & FOLK: Hi Liam I have something to give you ....?
Liam Gallagher: What A black eye (laughs)?
R & F: No, no, it's a gift, and maybe I'll give it to you at the end of the interview ...
Liam Gallagher: I'll do my best to deserve it! ! fucking guy heatwave We know not we did not already spoken?
R & F: It's a long time we were young and you then dominiez the world. ...
Liam Gallagher: I'm back Liam is back!
R & F: What can you tell us about this solo record, we received very little information?
Liam Gallagher: Neither have I received any information (laughs). The title of the album, already, is "As You Were". I had the translation in French but I forgot it. I think we could translate it into something like returning to business or we're putting it back or life goes on ... It's a phrase not badly used in England. Finally, few people use it but I use it all the time. It's a good title.
R & F: How many songs on this album?
Liam Gallagher: Twelve. And I'm really delighted, it sounds really good. I just wanted the songs not to lose their intensity, their side to live, being too mixed. If it were up to me, I would not even mix. I would swing them as they are, as they sound when they come out of the console. The big mixes, it's not for me, it stifles everything. Leave these fucking songs as they are! I have to be very careful ... I wrote and recorded a few songs with Greg Kurstin, a Los Angeles guy who plays in a band with Beck and worked with Paul McCartney. I also worked very hard with Dan Grech, Nigel Godrich's cousin. We wrote and recorded the first three songs in three days in California.
This first session in Los Angeles had completely boosted me!
R & F: Some time ago, you had this terrific phrase about a possible solo album:
"A solo record, or what, head of a dick ... I'm not a bitch ..."?
Liam Gallagher: I have to be a bitch, then (laughs)! No, but at the time, I really did not want to make a solo record. For me, there are too many solo artists in the world, who would do better to play in groups. There are too many big groups that have disappeared because a head of dick wanted to try his luck solo, wanted to honor his ego and nothing else! This kind of attitude causes every other member to suffer every time. Today, honestly, I'd rather be in Oasis, be there to talk to you about Oasis. Beady Eye, I loved it, it was great, really. But it was not Oasis either, eh, must confess things. Even though I was very proud of it. And so, this solo record, for me, is a bit like the last dice roll, I ...
R & F: The last die roll? Why ? Are you going to die or stop the music if it does not?
Liam Gallagher: No, I'm not going to die. I may even live forever ... Music is a part of my life. I do not wake up in the morning shouting "Music, music, music!". I love music but it is not an obsession either. I love many other things in life. If people do not buy my record, I'm not going to blow up the caisson. I'll just do something else, away from the music ... I cross my fingers for it to work but otherwise ...
R & F: Otherwise, you stop? It's pretty definitive, is not it?
Liam Gallagher: I think I should stop, man. This record is the best I can do. I will never write a record of reggae or dance, this record, that's what I know how to do. I'm not going to force the world to love me if he does not feel like it, I'm not stupid, even if, at times, one might think it (malicious smile). In all frankness, if nothing happens with this record, it will still hurt me. I would then need to take a step back, far, far, to bind my wounds. And we'll see what happens next ... The last twenty years, I kept wondering: "What's next? What's next?" I could not really appreciate the moment, I had to always move on. J ' have changed. I will see what happens with this record and I will draw some conclusions ...
R & F: On this record, there are musicians from BabyShambles, Kasabian, Beady Eye. So working with Liam Gallagher is not scary at the end?
Liam Gallagher: Of course not! I'm super cool! I do not know why people see me like this unbearable guy. I'm cool to live, man! Working with me is really quiet, no problem! I'm much less bum-fucking than full of artists. I am not a dictator, I do not order musicians to do this or that. And then, I'm really too good to be a dictator. Look, Trump, Hitler, Stalin, that little bitches all ugly (laughs).
R & F: And then, what would you describe it?
Liam Gallagher: It's a real album already, not just compiled songs. And that's what I've done most honestly so far! I broke my head on the lyrics and the melodies, it's the most personal record I've recorded. Without any fucking doubt! It's a record with a real spirit, a sensitive disc, with real guitars, the rock'n'roll whore if you want to call it that ... It's not a record that takes the pose, it's a direct, visceral disc, like the whores of Sex Pistols. It's really good to be back. I could not take it home. Boredom can kill a man. And since the split of Beady Eye, I was bored like a dead rat! Four years at home to do nothing, to drink too much, to speak too much in a vacuum. Yeah, it's always better than digging holes all day to pay your rent but I need to sing rock'n'roll, I came to this planet for that, I was made for it . I have to be on stage, I have to be on the street. I'm not meant to stay on a couch.
R & F: The songs sometimes look like ballads ...
Liam Gallagher: They were all written with an acoustic guitar. The acoustics and my voice, it always worked well. If I had done a rock stuff for the stadiums, I was fucking dude. Me, I like the acoustic guitar, it is like a percussion that serves my voice. And then, of course, I'm a real crazy John Lennon. I can not help myself. But I did not want to look like the old Guns N 'Roses.
R & F: When you talk about this record, you get the impression that you also need to regain a certain state of mind, something maybe more DIY, more punk ...
Liam Gallagher: Yeah, man! With Oasis, we had 25 amps, 400 guitars, 500 keyboards, that was the excess. There we have three guitars, two amps, a drum, we could have seen much bigger but that was not the question. It was back to the roots of the stuff, be more instinctive ...
R & F: What are these new songs?
Liam Gallagher: Peace, love, anger, hatred, jealousy, admiration, all human emotions in fact. But I love everyone. I am a man of peace. Of course, here and there, I point out certain wanderings, including mine but no one is perfect and I accept it. I'm not a cop, a judge or a god. It's a love record but not just. Love, hate and hope, man.
R & F: Have you written one about your brother?
Liam Gallagher: Not really, but if you listen carefully, it may be that Noel appears here or there ... It's my brother. It's like that. At least, when we have something to say, we do not take pincers, we go, frontal. Today, nothing can be said. You have to be careful with the least pronounced word, it is exhausting. With Noel, we always preferred the franchise, whether in the privacy or in front of the microphones, we shake.
R & F: Let's talk about other things: did you see the Republican Guard perform "Look Back In Anger" before the France-England friendly at the Stade de France?
Liam Gallagher: It was terrible, dude, really terrible ... Sorry to be sincere but it was really not good. It started with a good feeling, it was a really adorable gesture but the result ... It's not for me, no ... But I remain proud when the songs of Oasis are taken again for this kind of celebration . And then, it's better, at the moment, when everything goes into a spin, clinging to a song than to a political speech. I felt honored, though ... You're not going to tell me what my brother did, right? This big con has not deigned to point to the concert in tribute to the victims of Manchester ... What do you want me to tell you? He had only a plane to take, what a wanker ... I did not go to advertise myself, to show myself with Coldplay. I had to be there, not a bar. And I was proud of it, it was my fucking city, my fucking people! If you did not want me, I would have gone anyway. I belong to this category who think music can really change the world. If a song can change people's lives, it can influence the world. It's proven ! Politicians do not listen to music, or techno crappy or heavy metal. None of them seems to be sensitive to the melody. If Kim Jong-un declared that he loved Oasis, I would be very annoyed ...
R & F: These attacks, this total crisis that the world is going through, does it affect your way of composing?
Liam Gallagher: Look, these fuckers will never be able to submit. They can multiply the dirty, I'll always get up in the morning to do my thing. Maybe even to do even more. I think I'm coming back at the right time. I do not come back to save people but to throw a pavement in the pond. When it's shit out, you do not want Liam Gallagher staying at home to hang out. You want him to go up to the front! Bataclan, Manchester, it's the same! We all live under the same sky, man! When it happened, I was devastated and very angry! Fucking crap! They kicked kids, these sluts! Whether you're from Daech or any terrorist group, you're just a bitch I feel like a shit. There is no word to describe this horror. And I ' do not forget that all this shit comes from our politicians. Without their greed, their cynicism, we would not crash in our streets. But to answer your question, I'm not Bono. I do not wait for the slightest crisis to throw me on my guitar and write a universal song, no ...
R & F: History to get back to something less excruciating, you almost died because of a blue M & M's, is this true?
Liam Gallagher: That's right, yes. Imagine the scene: I was in a hotel room, I eat this candy and I do an allergy that is missing to kill me (laughs). At the Elvis! Pathetic. It would have made a beautiful epitaph fucking: Here lies Liam Gallagher, suffocated by a M & M's blue. Shame. R & F
Collector Scarf
: Before your solo disc, we saw "Supersonic", this documentary on Oasis. Extraordinary.
Liam Gallagher: Thank you but I, this documentary, I would not have stopped there. I would have told everything, absolutely everything. Even the darkest, least adamant things. It was necessary to tell the whole story, to take advantage to complete the loop. But it's a good documentary. My mother is just fantastic. She's even better than me (laughs). I love it.
R & F: When we look at "Supersonic", we can not help but see you and Noel like cool assholes.
Liam Gallagher: I take it! I like this ! I'm a cool asshole. It's exactly that !
R & F: Is this solo record also a way for you to prove to Oasis guys that you are able to do it again?
Liam Gallagher: No, I do not need to write songs to prove I can still do it. I can do it, whore, whenever I want, wherever I want. With whom I want. But I do not consider myself one of the greatest songwriters on earth. I see myself more like the rock'n'roll singer. It never bothered me to sing the songs of others. As a songwriter, I'm rather limited. Even though, when I write, I find it cool. But Elvis did not need to write tons of songs to be adored. And what suits Elvis suits me perfectly (laughs). No, I'm just happy to be back. To be there, in Paris, to talk with you about my music. Oasis? We'll see. Who knows?
I still breathe, Noel still breathes. We never know...
The interview is over. "You did not have a present for me?" Liam asked impatiently. She is handed an old scarf collector of the PSG, a scarf before Qatar. He seems touched, the supporter of Man City. "Oh man, it's really for me, you give it to me? I promise you one thing: If I play in Marseille, I show up on stage with ...". Liam Gallagher is not really afraid of anything. And it is probably also why we can not help loving him for so many years.
